Brown spot on molar

I’m devastated. My 15 month old DD has been much more upset the past few days than normal and pulling at her mouth, of course I’m thinking teething but when I look in her mouth I can see a small brown spot on one of her upper molars. It’s about 1-2mm in diameter and the rest of that tooth and her others are white. She has 12 teeth in total and that one only came in a few months ago.

She has a very good diet. Only drinks water from a free flow cup never even tried juice, didn’t have any added sugar at all until after one and now it is the very very occasional chocolate button (like 2) at her grandparents maybe once a week. She still has one bottle of cows milk at night but I always brush her teeth after this before bed. I try to brush her teeth as best I can but in all honestly it’s definitely not for 2 minutes and she does fight it a fair bit so I’m worried I haven’t been doing it well enough. Please tell me there’s another explanation to this other than tooth decay. I’m heartbroken 💔

Bless you.

Does she has dried fruit? That can be an issue. I think these things can be genetic as well. Best thing is to get her seen by a dentist

No I’ve purposely stayed away from dried fruit and raisins she’s never even had a baby pouch, every meal she’s ever had has been home made. I’m just so devastated that a tooth she’s only had 2 months could be so damaged. We’ve obviously gone so wrong somewhere. Unfortunately she’s never been seen by a dentist and they are still refusing to see her now so I’m not sure what to do.

We give the healthy start vitamin drops which contain vitamin d. I just wish I could get a dentist to have a look, but due to covid our r dentist is refusing, might bend to look into other private dentists.

My Ds had similar in his molars. It was enamel hypoplasia, so it wasn’t related to diet or poor oral health.

Dentist told us it mostly happened when children have illnesses/infections at the point those specific teeth are developing.

Did she have antibiotics as a newborn? Apparently that can contribute.

MotherOfDragon20 · 02/02/2022 17:06

Thanks @Yellow85 tbf she has had illness after illness for the past 6 months since starting nursery so that sounds possible!

@fullofpips yes she did she was treated for sepsis in NICU after she was born and was on a few IV antibiotics so I’ll make sure and mention that to the dentist. I’ve been able to get an appointment with a private dentist tomorrow so hopefully they can get to bottom of it!
