My son is 7, will be 8 in May and is yet to loose any baby teeth

Anyone come across this before?

He didn't get his first tooth until he was 12 months old so could that have something to do with it?

My son's teeth have been extremely slow to come out, and his adult teeth take aaaages to grow in after that. He went for xrays to see what was going on, and he has hypodontia, which basically means he is missing some adult teeth, and some that are there are very slow-growing. He's had a few baby teeth removed as they weren't going to come out by themselves, and has worn a retainer for a few years to hold space for the adult teeth that will eventually come.

Might be worth asking the dentist if further checks would be appropriate?

My youngest son was late too, his were also late coming in as a baby so it’s not unusual
He got a few big teeth and then loads at once he looked quite young till about 8 as still had mostly baby teeth. Obviously if you’re concerned speak to dentist but mine wasn’t really worried at 7 tbh

I don't think I started losing baby teeth until I was 7 or 8. Dentist was unconcerned, in fact felt the longer I kept my baby teeth, the better, as it meant my adult teeth stayed longer not at risk for fillings etc.

I have all my teeth, had no problems and actually, have pretty tough teeth. I think I ended up getting my last baby tooth pulled at maybe age 14/15? although that was only to progress getting braces.

Thank you all.

He has his 6 monthly check up booked at the end of Feb so will mention to the dentist and see what he thinks

A dentist wouldn't be concerned at this stage. In my opinion, being later with their adult teeth is a blessing because they have learnt to brush them properly by the time they arrive. Also means their jaw is a bit bigger to take them. One of my DC was very late with his, first loss age 8, and final one age 15. It isn't something to worry about just yet.

Apparently the later they get them the longer they keep them or something. My daughter was also 12 months or so when she got hers. I got mine a little sooner than that according to my mum but still only lost my first aged 7. It doesn't sound too abnormal. Certainly mention it to the dentist but they'll probably say its a good thing!
