Toddler speech

Hi there. I was hoping to ask you a question that I’ve struggled to find an appropriate answer for. My daughter just tuned 24 months and sometimes will use the same word out of context (“Christmas tree”). If we ask her what kind of milk she’d like she sometimes says “Christmas tree milk” , “what hat do you want to wear?, “Christmas tree hat”. Almost like she’s searching for the appropriate noun or adjective and gets confused. She has also started sometimes repeating the last word in a sentence, this happens mostly when she is asking for something and getting frustrated “I want more milk mill milk”. She’s otherwise extremely advanced in her language skills and is already making 5-7 word sentences with over 300 words. And has met all milestones early. Im a first time mom and not sure what is normal but I’m pretty worried and hoping you may have some thoughts. Thanks so much.

I would reach out to her pediatrician(developmental) and voice out these concerns. Also know that repetitive speech(echolalia) is a bridge to acquire speech.

Dysfluency is very typical of this age group and older. It usually just resolves over time as their brain and mouth catch up with each other.

Keep an eye on it but very typical - normal is a very wide range and her speech sounds great other wise. I'd be more concerned if you notice she is stick on particular sounds like the SSSS or fff and seems strained about it as that could be signs of a stutter. But this sounds like more fancy baby babble if you like and part of learning to talk. If you're still concerned ask a professional.
