Newborn - couldn't find testicle!

Went for our 6 week check today and the GP couldn't find my sons left testicle. We've been referred for an ultrasound!

Is this anything to worry about? Sad

No, it’s really quite common. In my area we wouldn’t even ultrasound unless it still couldn’t be felt at 6 months. They tend to go up and down!

No, it’s quite common. They usually drop. DS had one missing, and it dropped by his next appointment.

Thank you!

My ds had this too. It appeared by the next time we saw the GP Smile

Sounds like it’ll probably resolve itself op but I know my husband and brother both had ops in the 80s for testicles that hadn’t dropped (my brother was about 2, not sure about my husband). It hasn’t affected my husband negatively, we’ve had three children. My brother doesn’t have children yet.

Great, thank you

Our little one was the same and he ended up having an operation at 2 years old as they'd noticed at birth but wanted to give it plenty of time to see if his testicle would descend on it's own.

Very common & easily fixed.

Is everything okay now? Was the op straightforward?

Thanks for your reply!

@Secondtimemama32

The op was a very straight forward day case. I was in more of a state than DS to be honest!

He was quite sore for a few weeks. We kept him comfortable with calpol & he had a post op check a year later to make sure it was still in place as apparently (although rare) they can move back up.

He's 4 now & doesn't remember a thing & you'd never know he's had the procedure. The tiny scars have long faded & they said he would have no problems in adulthood with fertility etc.

I was dreading the op but as they've probably mentioned it is dangerous for them to leave it as they get older so it has to be done for the few cases were it doesn't descend on it's own. Atleast it is done while they're are little & can't remember a thing!

Definitely don't worry, it's very common.
