DS asked to wear pants 6 days ago. 2 days of complete success (no poohs at all on those days) 2 days of all wees successful but poohs in pants and 2 days of everything in pants. 6 nights with a dry nappy in the morning and 4 of the following mornings success on the toilet with wees. DS very stubborn and refuses to go sit on toilet if not his idea but always goes when he says he needs to. DS had bowel damage as a baby and we are not sure if he is now capable of recieving messages from bowel. The only poohs he has done successful are when we have caught him just in time as they are about to go in his pants. Anyway does this sound like we should try again in a few months or should we go for it now

I would say take the pants away. In the short run it will cause more mess, in the long run it will remind him, when he feels the breeze around his nethers, to get to the potty!

This was the only thing that stopped ds1 pooing in his pants, at nearly 3.5!

You'll only need to do it a few days. Are you giving a large fanfare when anything goes in the potty?

yes big fanfare, prizes etc and very easy going about the accidents. might save the free and easy approach for when the family has gone home as he is in a private stage and doesn't like people outside mum and dad to see him out and about so to speak. Thanks for the reply

ok he asked to wear a nappy today, I let him and he was happy but didn't tell me at all or respond possitively when asked if he would like to try toilet today so I think the answer to my own question is leave it a while and see what happens. Anyone out there with a child who has had bowel surgery and resulting bowel damage got any wisdom to share for when we do go the full way on the toileting road

we had my daughter trained at 22months and then all of a sudden she wouldnt go to the toilet. she was just doing everything in her pants so went back to pullups and put it down to not being ready. strated training again about 3 months ago. she is 2 9months now andfor the first month she would not poo on the potty or toilet, we found that 2 many prizes was the problem, she didnt feel the need to try (and a little scared of pooing on the toilet) if she was getting prizes for wees. we bought a star chart and let her pick an item out of the argos (a fifi scooter) she got 1 star for a wee and 2 for a poo and lost the same amount for an accident. we added a pic of the scooter next to the chart and let her put the sticker on. once she realised that doing it in her pants lost her stickers, something clicked and she slowly but surly started to let me know ehn she needed a poo. started of with standidng in front of me slightly squated, and i rushed her to the loo, then going to the corner and holding her bottome so rushed her to the loo. it was a case of picking up the sign. now she tells us every time. she hasnt had any kind of accident for about a month now and she got that fifi scooter. just stick with it and dont go back to pull ups or nappies. maybe get him 2 pick a prize to work to.
