Baby hates having teeth brushes, please help!

I do my absolute best on this twice a day, but my LO absolutely hates anything in going in their mouth unless they are controlling it, resulting in a poor effort.

My baby is 11 months and has two bottom teeth and two top teeth coming through. I was horrified this weekend when I saw the bottom teeth looking a little yellowed.

Please help. We've been to the dentist (pre potential yellow plaque) and they just said brush at least once a day!

Top tips welcome!

Chewable tooth brush from BrushBaby. My son loved it. I used to give it to him to chew whilst I read his stories at bedtime. Then whenever I could I’d try and get in with a ‘proper’ tooth brush. He’s 4 now and has had no problems with his teeth and happily brushes twice a day. It does get easier. We also went through a phase of watching teeth cleaning songs on YouTube and that helped too.

Hi thanks we have one of these plus a toothbrush, usually resort to it once the brushing has failed but maybe I'll try the other way round because at least something gets done pre melt down that way

I found nothing that worked other than laying him between my legs and brushing through the tantrum. It is hard, but at 3.5 he loves brushing his teeth now

An electric toothbrush and Hey Duggee’s toothbrushing song playing on my phone - the only way we can get my 11-month old DD to accept having her teeth brushed. I fucking hate that song….

My two year old still isn't keen but when he went through this stage around a year old we found Elmo's teeth brushing song on you tube helped. We danced to it and did teeth together as a family (and then we did his teeth during a second round of Elmo to get them done properly!)

Thanks, I'm not adverse to going through a tantrum but I don't want to make my LO have some kind of aversion to the whole thing, well more so than they already do

Different things worked for my two kids.

With the first we just gave up brushing with a proper brush for a bit and gave her one of those chewable ones, then went back to the normal brush after a while when the association was broken.

Second I just pin down on my lap and try and get the brush vaguely around her mouth and then huge praise after. She's getting much better and will happily let us brush them at least half the time now. She's generally pretty placid though so pinning her down etc isn't as much of an ordeal for everyone as it was with DC1 who is, let's say less pliant!

Wrap in towel, pin down. Had to do it most days with DS1 for about 6 months. No messing around, just in and done asap. He's brilliant at doing his teeth now.

How do I get over the mouth clamping?

DD was exactly the same and hated having to hold her to brush those teeth so opted for the electric toothbrush.
We let her hold her electric toothbrush and she likes it since it feels funny on her gums I guess! She keeps it in her mouth and I just gently try to go over her teeth a few times and let her have it the rest. Try the electric toothbrush and see how you get on!
