When do babies sleep a bit longer stretches

Exhausted mum here, baby is 4 weeks old and wakes around every 2 hours for a feed, apart from few odd occasions where they have went 3/3.5 hours.

My DH is a nurse so I tend to take over nights as I worry about him not getting sleep due to his job being caring for people. I notice I am forgetful and clumsy because I’m tired so I wouldn’t want him being like that in work!

I do get the occasional nap but it doesn’t really feel like I’ve slept? I feel so ungrateful saying that I have a wonderful DH and my family are amazing so I get to have the occasional nap but when I wake it just feels like I haven’t even slept!

I know baby is young so will be time before they ever sleep through but I wondered roughly when do they sleep longer stretches? Even a 4 hour one would probably make me feel like a new woman!

Sounds like you've got it great to me! My first slept like that, and at about 4 months she was totally sleeping through. Good luck, it does pass before you know it.
My second is terrible.. He is 10 weeks and have had total of 1 hour 30 mins sleep tonight. 😔 He hasn't slept for longer than 2 hour stretch since he was born.

Your baby is very normal!!! I know you might not want to hear this, but if uoir baby is regularly and reliably going down for 2 hours then that's really good at 4 weeks. My DS now age 3 didn't do that till 4 months, and my other DS age 6 weeks hax done that twice. Neither went down reliable in the early days and DH and I did opposite shifts surviving on very littke sleep so the babies got done sleep being held.

Your baby will do longer stretches when their stomach gets bigger.

Your DH doesn't need a full night's sleep every night to be able to work - get him to do a night or two a week and you'll feel a lot better

I know it's disliked on here but I GFed my first. Do have a look, also the baby whisperer. I found a bit of structure and predictability a life saver. BF for 11m too so it does work with BF'd babies.

My first fed every two hours and it was horrendous but by 3 months he was sleeping through for 12 hours plus every night. I Gina Forded my second which worked well.
