Hi, I started a new job at the end of September 2021 and I’m keen to start trying to conceive soon-ish! Myself and my partner are hoping to start trying June this year. When does everyone deem an acceptable amount of time to fall pregnant after starting a new job?

Check your contract to see how long you need to work for them before eligible for mat leave - don't let any other factor hold you back!

There’s no acceptable period, it happens when it happens and it’s whenever you feel it is right and acceptable. However you my want to check when you would qualify for any enhanced maternity pay.

Yeah as others have said, check your entitlement.

I wanted to wait 6 months before falling pregnant just so I felt I'd been there a reasonable amount of time but that was my personal choice and I was only entitled to statutory maternity pay.

I wa pregnant when I started my job and didn't realise.
Company have been fantastic.
For smp you need to be at job 1 week longer than you conceive, check your contract for any additional pay.
I got mat allowance, so there's usually some money.

I would have preferred 3 months or so to settle in and be there a year before going off, but life happens and it isn't bad at all.
