When do they stop waking to wee?

DD is nearly 3, been waking at night to wee since about a month after she was dry in the day back in the summer.

It’s no hassle, she goes back down quickly, but she’s up normally twice between her bedtime and ours.

Is that just how it is for years? Or forever? Does it tail off?

I'd be pleased if mine actually woke for a wee, she's 6 and still in pull ups 😫

It really is a case of how long is a piece of string (unfortunately)

My twelve year old still does… though he was not out of nappies at night till he was 6,

One of mine just did that for a funny few months and then stopped again. Didn't really need to i think

I wake up for a wee so you’ve got 50 years ahead of you 😉

I do sometimes too, DH even more! I know it’s hormonal in children but wasn’t sure if that was being aware they need to go, or if that’s not needing to go.

Thanks a lot for the replies. I think once whatever she’s drunk at dinner has gone she’s all good for a night but she goes after brushing her teeth then often again within an hour and an hour or two later.

Mine is up twice for a wee usually. I figure she takes after her Dad who gets up about 6 times a night. He has the bladder of a 9 month pregnant lady 🤣

Mine never did it - just went dry at night at about 3 and that was it. Very kid is different.

DC1 was dry in the day at 2.5 and dry at night at 3.5 - he slept through wet nappies right up until he started waking up with dry nappies and that was mostly that, no getting up for a wee. He did wet the bed a couple of times a month for ages though.

DC2 still waking in the morning with wet nappies at nearly 4. She hasn't really slept through since about 4 months anyway. Hadn't occurred to me that we might have night time toilet trips to look forward to! Shock

DS2 is nearly 6 and we dream Wee him when we go to bed. Stopped with DS1 when he was about 7 (which was good as I struggle to carry him now if he’s asleep).

I think there are two different hormones relating to night dryness - one wakes them when they need a wee, the other makes the urine more concentrated so they don't need to wee as often at night. My guess is that your DD has the first but not the second, hard to tell how long it will be though.

I hate to say it, but I'm 33 and still get up twice most nights Grin

daisyjgrey · 30/01/2022 20:04

I'm 34 and haven't stopped getting up once in the night for a wee most nights....🤷🏼‍♀️
