Really freaking out

Hi, I’m a first time father so please go easy on me! I have a 9month old boy and I’m really worried and anxious!

The other night (Thursday) I was putting him to sleep, I had him in my arms doing a gentle rocking motion & shushing him when his mum had come home unexpectedly and crept up behind me, I jumped but as I did that I swayed the baby really hard to one side as I jumped. (I’m a jumpy nervous person) the baby cried for a short period (few seconds) then went gently off to sleep.

I realised straight away the motion was harder than usual and worried if I’d done any damage? I had his head and body supported throughout it all but I cannot stop worrying.

He’s been smiley and normal since (apart from a little sick after his mid afternoon feed)

I’m a worrier, and I’m worried sick 🤒

well stop worrying. He wont have been hurt at all by that honestly.
his head was supported and it wasnt whipped backwards and forwards . You just made him jump. Try to forget it .

Thank you very much for the reassurance and kind words. I just worry about everything! He’s my little miracle after 3 previous losses and I’m whittled about everything when it comes to him! Hmm haha

We've all had these experiences - I slipped on a toy on the floor when carrying my baby once and we went flying. Felt terrible. She's 11 now and unscathed!

flapjackfairy · 29/01/2022 19:55

Aw it is all normal. They are just so precious and the thought of anything happening to them is to much to bear. And to think you might have been the cause of it if only accidentally only adds to that fear.
if it makes you feel better my youngest one is in a wheelchair and he threw his arms out going through a doorway on New Years Eve. It got bent back against the door frame leading to much screaming, lots of tears ( mostly mine ) and a whole raft of X Ray's to rule out any breaks.
Luckily it was fine but I was tearful for a good week.over it and still feel terrible about it now . But it was a total accident and kids are tougher than we think thankfully.
Enjoy your little miracle !

He'd do worse in a jumperoo you're fine 😂

Spud1130 · 29/01/2022 20:01

He's fine but in the kindest possible way, do you have any support in place for your anxiety? The worries only get worse once they start crawling/walking/skateboarding/driving....

Thesearmsofmine · 29/01/2022 20:26

He will be fine. If you are generally anxious it might be the time to get some help with it because it will make long term parenting much easier on you.

Hi,

Errmm yes & no, strangely. I served in the military for 12 years and I have had support for that and anxiety fell under that category. That really has since dried up. I believe I may have had PND but the Dr didn’t really want to know and put it down to PTSD as “men don’t get PND”

Sorry to waffle on about it.
