Had anyone had a newborn or young baby poorly with covid?

I’m currently at the Childrens hospital with my 6 week old..my husband and mum have covid at the moment. I wasn’t really worried about my baby as I had two vaccines pregnant and one breastfeeding..but she’s got a fever of 38.1 which the doctors said was high for her age. Waiting to confirm if it’s covid but just looking for reassurance that I’m being silly as I thought cases in children were mild :( ..she’s still feeding but isn’t very alert and looks poorly.

Babies love to scare us with fevers. It's horrible at the time but you are in a very safe place.

It's highly likely that they aren't particularly worried about it being covid. They're worried in case it's anything else. In the first 8 weeks, the worry with a pyrexial baby is in case it's sepsis. Covid would be one of the less worrying reasons for a temperature at this age. So I actually have my fingers crossed for you that it is just Covid.

My DS had Covid at 14 weeks. He had a fever and congestion and was feeding much less. His eczema flared and he was generally miserable. I called 111 for advice and spoke to a GP - we gave calpol and neurofen to help with what we expected was sore throat/body aches/head aches - as these were the symptoms we all had. Didn’t need to take him into hospital as he didn’t develop a worryingly high fever or any breathing difficulties. It’s been 2 weeks since his positive test and he’s still a bit congested with a slight cough but much better overa.

Any sort of virus is tough on little ones. Doesn’t sound like your little one is too bad. I hope they get through it ok. It is always so worrying when they are ill.

Unfortunately for us, his big sister has brought home from nursery a couple illnesses that he’s then picked up and we’ve all had. The non-Covid virus we had before Xmas was much worse!

She tested positive..but they are worried with the fever being over 38 she could have something else making her poorly so needs a lumbar puncture and bloods and they’re going to start antibiotics now as a precaution anyway. Feel so worried and she’s so exhausted and can’t get her to sleep because of all the profecures (which obviously she needs!) absolute nightmare :(

She has you there. That's more important than sleep at the moment.
