Hi guys as the title says, we are taking our 6 month old to the Caribbean on a 10 day holiday (all inclusive resort by the beach) and I just want to make sure I am fully prepared and have everything I need or may need. So any tips, suggestions or unusual things that may be useful? Thanks very much in advance!!!

Bath toys!! We took ds at that age and took a load of cars that could go in the bath as well as a small watering can. He would sit on the edge of the water and love helping us play with them.

cool cotton trousers/shorts and t shirts.

2 all in one uv protective swimsuits and also the uv protective swim hats as well is cotton full brimmed ones.

All in one vests for nighttime

Remember it's so hot you can easily hand wash and dry clothes!

I assume they still nap morning and afternoon? So swim, change into cool cotton clothes, parasol and shade in pushchair whilst you enjoy the sun, pool and AI!!!!!!

My ds was born in a hot country and we were there until he turned 2. He mostly wore cotton dungarees as great with vest, t shirt, long sleeve t Shirt and cardigan etc if needed. We had shorts ones and long legged ones.

Blackout blind to help with naps and combat jetlag (unless hotel has shutters)
Something to provide shade on the beach
Neoprene swim nappy for pool
Lots of suncream!
Pouches/snacks if you are weaning

minipie · 24/01/2022 15:43

Oh yes to bath toys and UV suit/hat!

Oh and those poncho towels are a godsend - especially if they can sit up!

Small paddling pool to put poolside in shade he can play in. Same on beach.

If they bottle feed take those insulated bottle holders for keeping it warm or even cold when out and about.

Avoid anything plastic such as plastic change mats as they get very hot! Remember this as well I'd you have a car or when putting on the buggy. Always check the temperature of the surface your placing them on!

Thin non knit blankets for comfort and evenings.

A big mat/sheet for them to sit on at the beach. (When mine were babies they would put hands in the sand, rub eyes, cry because eyes were sandy, rub eyes again, cry .....)
Sun hat with flap thing covering neck. Sun shade. Beach toys.

You can buy sand free beach mats from Amazon, they are brilliant!

Oh and do not do what I did, in a panic that ds would not eat anything I packed a load of ready meals. Slight issue at Mexican customs when it became very clear that this was not allowed!!!

Not talc please it’s not good for the tiny sand creatures and what if it gets in the sea. Sand will dust off eventually!

Mrsmch123 · 25/01/2022 12:13

We are going for two weeks to Spain, how many swim nappies would you take?

ArachnidArachnid · 25/01/2022 15:16

You could get a washable reusable swim nappy? They dry very quickly.

An airport tip - put a piece of plain coloured washi tape on tye bavk of your passports then write the owners first name on in Sharpie. Easy to pop boarding pass etc in the right place and quickly give correct passport to owner in passport control queues.

Can't take credit for this one as read it on MM a few years ago Grin

Sterilising - IF you have a kettle in your room take a roll of cling film and pack of Milton tablets. Ask hotel for a large bowl that will fit bottles and paraphernalia in (ours gave us a saucepan Grin) then kettle boiled water and tablet in pan or bowl, bottles etc in and cover with cling film till the morning. Worked for us and DD didn't get any nasty tummy bugs.
