Brands for bigger baby

DS is 9mo but 80cm so in 12-18 or sometimes 18-24 clothes but he's still baby shaped with chunky legs and a rather large head compared to his body! He's in proportion for his age and Dr, HV etc all very happy with his growth. But I'm finding it hard to get clothes that fit because they're designed for toddlers who are a lot leaner (and have grown into their head!). Most of the trousers are too narrow for his legs and he can't always bend them properly (even in some leggings) and some of the jumpers won't go over his head. I keep looking for ones with poppers but a lot of places don't have them in this age range. Any suggestions for places that come up a bit wider/ seem to have bigger head holes?

Try Asda. A lot of their baby clothes are huge.

I don't have any advice really other than just try bits from everywhere because even in the same shop the sizing between items can be so different! I recently bought my eldest a load of leggings and trousers in 3-4yrs from Boots and the difference in lengths etc between the few pairs is comical. One of them in particular is sooo much longer than the others and they're all the same brand! My eldest is petite but has a huge head so we mostly just avoid jumpers and sweatshirts for cardigans instead so that's one battle less and generally also worn t-shirts that are a bit baggy once she'd outgrown the popper/envelope tops. DC2 is just generally big in all aspects so far but at least more in proportion than my eldest who has inherited my petite frame and massive head, poor thing!

Cardi/zip-up hoodies sound like a good shout. Overall, H&M and Frugi seem to come up very large for us, and Mothercare used to seem very wide, if you can get some secondhand (not sure if the new Boots version does or not). We've got some 18-24 month H&M tops with shoulder poppers. Morrisons at least used to do some ribbed knit leggings that were very stretchy. I think they were notionally girls', but I remember grey, navy, and rust ones.

I think there's a UK-based facebook group for parents of very tall babies and toddlers – they might have some good ideas. Groups like 'Can I cloth in it?' might also be useful for ideas for trousers and vests, since stretchy/wider cut clothes that suit a toddler with a bulky cloth nappy would probably also suit a tall, but baby-shaped baby?

Second H+M. M+S are also quite roomy.

Lovemylittlebear · 23/01/2022 12:22

Ohhh I could have written this - have same scenario.

Following working for us:
Zip up grows with no feet 12-18 white company
Frugi 12-18 months
John Lewis 12-18 or 18-24 months
Fred and Noah 12-18 months

Popper and button legs I need to remove from drawer as game over here largely

I love Tobias and the bear but none of the tops and jumpers I have bought fit over his head and the poppers on legs gape a bit.

Knitted cardigans - but currently trying to eat the buttons so not ideal as you have to watch him like a hawk.

Vests h and m are fine and leggings 12-18 months

I mean, these are fine if you want to spend £++ on clothes

Asda

YoureOnMute · 23/01/2022 13:57

Next, M&S, Sainsburys and Morrisons were all great for us!

seaborgium · 23/01/2022 14:02

@miltonj

Try Asda. A lot of their baby clothes are huge.
ASDA's sizing is all over the place. I once bought a pack of 12-18 month ASDA vests for DS. He had outgrown them by the time he was 5 months old. I have other 12-18 month ASDA sleepsuits that fit DS now at 9.5 months.
miltonj · 23/01/2022 14:04

Weird isn't it, I have some Asda sleep suits 12-18 that are about 3ft longer than my 16 month old. She also has a 0-3 Asda hoodie that still fits her!

GrapefruitPink · 23/01/2022 14:05

H&M sizing is big

BiscuitLover3678 · 23/01/2022 14:09

I always found Next and John Lewis small so odd they’re being mentioned here. It depends how they’re big. Next and John Lewis I found short.

RedRobyn2021 · 23/01/2022 19:02

I've always thought M&S do some great roomy clothes. My daughter is on the 95th percentile and I've managed to make her 6-9 month vests from there last up until very recently (she's 11 months)

Bonnealle · 23/01/2022 19:16

Polarn Y Pyret are great and the only thing that consistently fit my chunk of a baby. They also have double poppers so will grow with them. They often have deals, and even though they’re a bit more expensive they last a lot longer so work out the same price. They also wash really well!

Bonnealle · 23/01/2022 19:17

I find M&S quite small?

tothemoonandbackbuses · 23/01/2022 19:20

Asda make lots of tops with poppers as my 4 year old has some. M&S do an easy dressing range as well

user2908143823142536475859708 · 23/01/2022 19:22

I find Asda stuff small made unless it's the Disney range.

Go 3 sizes up if you're in primark.

H and m is just about bang on size. Not big, not small.

John Lewis small made.

WalkingOnSonshine · 23/01/2022 19:26

DS was the same.

All supermarkets including M&S are small
John Lewis long but slim
H&M & Lindex are roomy.

I buy everything second hand so cheaper or same cost as supermarket clothes.

Bobojangles · 23/01/2022 19:29

Definitely not ASDA they are small (and where always good for my 2nd centile boy! I'd avoid next, Tesco, Matalan as well

M&S and Sainsbury's I generally find the roomiest of the mainstream shops - and where a better fit for my chunky 2nd born

shivawn · 23/01/2022 21:01

My baby is only 3 months but already in 6-9 months sizes. I buy a lot on PatPat, I find their stuff runs big and they have loads of really cute designs.
