If you have a baby, what temperature is your house?

Our heating is set to 18 degrees and I'm concerned my 4 MO is cold overnight.. but I'm always too scared to turn up the heating because of SIDS

FWIW baby wears 2.5 tog bag and a short sleeved vest, and a sleepsuit at night, but her hands and arms are always cold when she wakes up in morning

Help!

Our room can drop to 14-15c sometimes
DD 7 months Is fine in this and never wakes up so can't be cold

Better to be too cold than too hot. Check the back of neck to see if they are warm don’t go by hands.

We didn’t have heating when ours were babies and even now never have it on overnight. As long as it’s not dropping really low it should be fine.

I have no idea, 3 kids in and have never checked house temp. Have a 4 month old now and her hands are often cold during the night or in the morning, that's the risk unfortunately when you're too young for a duvet over them!

Ours maybe drops to 17, 16 at a push on really cold nights but I always do long sleeve vest, 2.5 tog sleeping bag but with arms and I usually pop a little blanket over her about 11/12. I find she sleeps better being cosier.
If I get up to feed her and get back into bed I’m usually cold so I’m assuming she feels it too.

DockOTheBay · 22/01/2022 19:44

18 seems pretty average temperature, if not on the warm side overnight. I'm sure they won't be cold.

Caspianberg · 22/01/2022 19:45

20-22.
He’s 1 now ( second winter)
Sleeps in long sleeve vest, long sleeve pjs and thick socks. Then toddler duvet and blanket

First winter same temp. In long sleeve vest, sleepsuit and sleeping bag. Arms always frozen.

Under 20 he wakes frequently from cold

Minimum 19 degrees

NoHeavenNoMore · 22/01/2022 19:57

Brilliant, thank you so much for your reassurance. I'll carry on as have been with baby at nighttime then.

I had been thinking 18 was cold, but i can just tell my DP to throw a jumper or his dressing gown on now if he's cold watching telly 😆

I try to keep the bedroom between 18-20° when he is sleeping.

6mo wears the same as your DC. Gets 17. His hands get cold but generally ok. I sometimes put a long sleeve vest on at night. I put the heating on higher one night because I was worried he was cold and he woke loads.

That's interesting about waking more.... I bought one of these padded sleepsuits in sainsburys months ago but have been too afraid to dress her in it for bed. First time wearing it tonight (she only just squeezes into it) and she's stirred much less since she went to bed a couple of hours ago than she usually does. In her bags she usually does that annoying leg thrashing thing 😬

I'll see how the rest of the night goes, and how her arms are on the morning!

Thank you!
