Gassy baby

I have a 3 month old baby who suffers with gas. Everything I’ve read says this tends to improve on its own as the digestive system matures and usually begins to improve around now. I began seeing an improvement around 10 weeks but since 12 weeks it seems to have returned, this has coincided with him going from doing several poops a day to one every few days. He wakes several times throughout the night needing to release the wind which I either help with bicycle legs and pushing his knees to his tummy or he releases it whilst feeding.

I have tried infacol and gripe water without much success. I’m now trying to cut dairy out my diet to see if that makes any difference, although I’m not convinced this is the issue as he shows no other signs of CMPA and he does have the odd day when it hasn’t been an issue.

When did you see an improvement in your babies and is there anything you done that helped? At the moment it feels like there is no end in site and I feel he would sleep much better if he wasn’t disturbed by his gas!

My 12 week old has had this issue since birth, waking every hour in the early hours grunting and straining with gas. His poos were also not always daily, but massive and going up his back when they happened. I think mine was due to oversupply and fast let down, which I only found out about fairly recently. I think there has been an improvement since I started expressing some foremilk off before feeding him. Still a bit gassy, but hasn't seemed nearly as bad the last week. If you have a fast let down have a google and see if it seems relevant.

I have thought this could be the issue. Do you express some off before every feed?

I only do it when they feel really full, which annoyingly tends to be in the middle of the night! I had to block feed (I think that's what it's called) a little to get my supply down first though as they were full all the time before.
