I have just come back from health visitor. My DD is doing great and is 50 percentile.Last time I saw a midwife at 2 weeks she was 93 percentile. The health visitor said its normal for hear weight 'even out'.
Has this happened to you and is this normal? She is my first child so I worry just about everything

I presume the HV is referring to catch down growth. Your baby might have been born 93rd percentile but that would have because of various factors during your pregnancy, not necessarily because she’s destined to be 93rd percentile forever. So with catch down growth you’d expect a period of slower growth for baby (hence going from 93rd to 50th percentile) then you’d expect it to stabilise and continue to follow that curve. Most babies go through catch down or catch up growth, it’s completely normal. Just maybe do regular weight checks to put your mind at ease and to make sure she’s continuing to grow!

How old is she now?

How old is she now?

Interesting to read about catch up growth. DD was born on the 75th, then hovered for a long time (couple of years) on the 25th but is now on the 2nd. Very poor eater but we can't figure out why. I blame myself for breastfeeding her rather exclusively than topping up with formula but who knows?

I'd keep a close eye on it. Apart from the weight gain slowing down does she otherwise seem happy and healthy? If you are breastfeeding look for indicators that she isn't getting enough maybe.

What's her growth like in terms of length?

If she remains on the 50th then there is no reason to be concerned though.

My DD was born above 75th percentile and gradually dropped fir the first 3 months until settling on the 50th where she has settled (7months old now). No concern at all. Are you booked in to be weighed again? Baby will ‘find their line’ then should stay roughly on that line x

Did they check height? Is your baby fairly happy?

My DS was born 50th and dropped to 9th while EBF. He tracked the 9th centile for a few weeks for weight but his height went up to 75th at the same time and he cried constantly so HV was concerned. We added formula (combi feeding) at around 6 weeks and he became a happy little boy overnight and gained weight really quickly. His height is now 91st and weight 99th - he's tracked those lines for months now.

If your baby is in proportion and happy it's almost certainly fine - there were clear warning signs with my DS. You could always get another measurement in a few weeks for peace of mind.

Hi! All young mothers are very worried about how their child is developing and gaining weight. And your excitement is quite natural. It would help if you remembered that it is better to visit a pediatrician regularly in the first year of a child's life and closely monitor changes in his weight and possible rashes on the skin. After the birth of my son, I used the womencalc.com/en/baby-weight-and-height-calculator/ Baby weight calculator to know how much weight the baby should gain during the month. It was a very convenient and simple way to adjust nutrition and monitor the child.

I don't think you need to worry about it so long as she doesn't keep dropping down centiles.
Our baby girls was above the 99.6th centile at birth. She's dropped down to be 91st & 75th centiles for weight and length which is similar to her older sisters.
