How do you clean baby toys?

Anything soft I put in the washing machine and hard toys like chew rings I wash with washing up liquid and a sponge but I'm not sure what to do about mixed toys (eg soft toys with rings or plastic mirrors attached) or toys with batteries. Some of them are from older DD so upto five years old so I'm not sure if wiping them with a disinfectant wipe is enough Grin.

Do you reuse chew toys?

Also, how do you clean a very dirty high chair (but very good and expensive one). It's got really hard to scrape of stuff sticking to it. Blush

When my second baby was born I have the toys we’d kept from older DD a spray with anti bac spray and a wipe over but I wasn’t that worried if I’m honest.
High chair was harder but I used a soft bristle scrubbing brush and soaked the straps in vanish, I have a sonic scrubber which was perfect for the little crevices in the high chair

Im normally not too worried but some of the toys haven't been cleaned for years and he's putting everything in his mouth now.

If you use anti bac spray don't you have to rinse it? Do you use it for soft toys as well?

We use Milton solution for most toys if they need a clean- either dunk them in a bucket or give them a wipe. I figure it’s safe for baby bottles so must be ok on other things.

I've never cleaned baby toys really unless visibly dirty then I wipe with a baby wipe

PatriotCanes · 21/01/2022 12:04

Baby toys - dishwasher or washing machine. If they didn't survive then, well so be it. Anything with a battery - dettol spray.

Pink Stuff is great for highchair gunk. Get in there with a toothbrush!

Zoflora or dilute Milton and a cloth for toys that won't Machine wash or wash up in the sink.
I don't dishwasher them as I'm worried about plastics in there.
For high chairs I've tried loads of different products and yes they can help. I've got a sonic scrubber and things too. But I've mostly found scraping stuff off with the scraper on the back of a washing brush with some warm soapy water does the trick. The best thing though is to wipe it straight down so it doesn't build up. Of all the jobs I try to do straight away, that is a main one.

OP, I stopped worrying about cleaning toys when I discovered DD was playing in the cat litter tray, eating garden worms and licking the toilet seat …! Grin
She is now in her thirties and none the worse for it.

Ive never cleaned them unless they are visibly dirty. I used to worry about this but then caught my son when he was about 8 mo licking a shoe, so I stopped fretting about it

We had a bag full in the loft, been up there a long time. I wiped hard toys with antibacterial cleaner. Soft toys I put in washing machine, some had batteries and survived but others didn't work right after. There were some teethers in there and the gel had gone funny, they were all binned. Some battery operated toys I'd forgotten to remove the batteries from and they had leaked so they were binned too.

I never clean my sons toys unless they look dirty, I then just wipe down with Milton spray and a wet cloth. I mean he plays on the floor, puts things in his mouth that aren't his toys etc. He hasn't had many colds/illnesses compared to friends babies, so can't be too bad!

Focus126 · 21/01/2022 23:18

I try to buy toys that are easy to clean. Anything that's machine washable goes into the washing machine. Anything that's not is hand washed with water and washing liquid.

Thanks everyone for the tips!!

Just looking vup pink stuff. Is it very harsh or toxic? Does it have to be thoroughly washed off again? Can I use it in toys as well?
