Side sleeping and nappy leaks

Hi mums. Baby started sleeping on his side or his tummy and we are having so many midnight leaks through his nappy and are doing full outfit and sleep bag changes almost every night. Not to mention the extra laundry. Any tips to prevent this? We are already using a size up of nappies but seems to make no difference. Thanks all!

We had this with our now 9 month old. Starting using Pampers nappys just for at night time and never looked back haven't had any leaks for months now! Also reusable nappys can help with leaks.
Our 9 month old started sleeping on his side at 7 months now 80% of the time sleeps on his tummy now doesn't look comfy at all but he would move or get upset it he was uncomfortable.

@charcb What age and nappy size OP? And what nappies are you using?

I have a front/side sleeper and Pampers Active Fit were the only ones that didn’t leak at night for us.

Hi @BDavis @Samsara12 - he's 7 months, we are currently using the pampers size 4 active fit. It's one size up as I was recommended to do this to prevent leaks but maybe I should go back to size 3? Or even try the baby dry ones? Thanks!

@charcb it’s so difficult to know OP! We use baby dry during the day but used active fit at night and they worked for our DS in his normal size. He leaked out of babydry at night but is fine during the day. Is your DS leaking because the nappy is over full or leaking out of the side/top?
We switched to pampers active fit nappy pants at night when DS hit size 4 and they’ve been great for us. The waistband is much wider and stretchier so moves better with him in the night

Make sure you upsize his vests if you’re still using them to make sure there’s space for nappies to expand!!

Good tip! The current vests don't seem very roomy in the crotch area now you mention so maybe this will help! I shall try this tonight!

My friend has just been having this issue, her ds sleeps on hiss front, I suggested putting nappy on backwards…..it worked!

Second the suggestion to check vest size. Took me far too long to realise that if DD's nappies leaked, it generally meant her vest was too small, not her nappy!

Thanks ladies. This forum is such a wealth of info! Thanks so much. I bought some bigger vests and hope it resolves the issue. I'll report back tomorrow!

I had the same problem as my 7 month old sleeps on his front . I tried sizing up in pampers dry nappies but no good. I was told pull ups are better as they come up higher in the front. I’ve been using the night time pampers pull ups and they work really well.

Reporting back - thanks fellow mums, your suggestion on sizing up the vests seems to have worked and we didn't have any leaks last night! Thanks so much - so much wisdom in this forum!
