Isolating with 5 and lively 1 year old hand hold needed

So we're on day 3 of isolating due to 5 year old with covid. Its not been so bad so far as youngest was in nursery but today he's not. He's bouncing the walls. I hate staying in with him. 5 year old is mainly amusing himself. 1 year old is currently trying to post toys through the letter box.

Please keep me company. I'm not even showered and dressed yet...will probs have to wait until youngest has his nap, ugh!

All I've got planned is to have an indoor teddy's bear picnic for lunch. I've done a sensory pasta and rice play with little one. Any suggestions welcome. Or tell me jokes to keep me sane.

Thank you

My sympathies. We're on day 3 with my 3 year old and I'm dreading today and tomorrow. He's absolutely fine (thank goodness) and was completely hyper by the end of yesterday when my partner was looking after him. Now it's my turn 😳 I can't even imagine adding a one year old into the mix.

Lots of TV!

Yuckypretty · 20/01/2022 10:02

Glad you're little one is fine. Have you got any please and for today? I'm going to try and stay off TV until the afternoon, we'll see though. I want to ware him out so he definitely has his nap, that's when I get the cooking done.

I'll hold your hand! I'm on day 6 of isolating and was with DS (10) but he's back at school having hardly been symptomatic and testing negative on day 6 and 7 - obviously much easier time for me, and DS was delighted to have a week in his room with his laptop. My tests on day 5 & 6 still bright red , no early release for me I'm thinking....

I'm not minding the staying in, more that DH decreed I'm not to go in the kitchen at all and insists he (or teenager) has to bring me everything, which means I have to sit here waiting for him to be available sometimes! He's usually good when available but it's frustrating if I need a lemsip now and he's on call!

Oh that's sounds tough. I've not attempted to try to keep 5 years old germs to himself.

I hope it's a good lesson for DH and your son to be attentive to you.

I really hope 1 year old doesn't get it as I wouldn't be able to work at all.

We're currently on day 7 with all 4 of us at home. 3yr old and 6yr old. It has been really hard. 3 yr old is massively missing pre school and doesn't like to watch screens which makes this even harder. Things that have entertained us (not sure about a 1 year old):
-balloon tennis in lounge- balloon kept them busy for ages

  • pouring rice into different containers
-setting up a road with making tape in the lounge for vehicles then us to race around -cutting out pictures from magazines -kinetic sand
  • finger painting
-jigsaws -baking cakes/bread I feel your pain- good luck!

Do you have a garden? I’d bundle them up in layers and waterproofs and put them outside for half an hour. I know it’s not appealing in the cold but fresh air will do you all the world of good.

Yuckypretty · 20/01/2022 11:06

@TulpisGarden Hahaha I just caved and put the TV on for them. But I went on the cross trainer for 10mins to make use of the time. I defo needed the extra endorphins!!

Thanks for all the suggestions @Lamby1234 ! I think we'll give the masking tape one a go. Day 7! Wow I hope it's not too much longer.

@INeedNewShoes unfortunately our garden is not child friendly it's a wild mess with nettles and unsafe bits.

Thanks everyone, these messages really help.

I cannot recommend a big bath enough. When my kids were younger they loved this and you can sit on the side and drink coffee/ wine!

MmmmIsee · 20/01/2022 11:12

Meant to add lots of toys in the bath and nice and warm, my dcs woukd easily.splash around for an hour. Sympathies , all of mine as toddlers were so so full on so we would have to bring them for two v physical activities a day, mine never chilled or pottered about...

Echobelly · 20/01/2022 11:14

I think I'm going to get DH to bring my bike-desk to the front room as it looks like I'll be here all this weekend too at this rate but I feel fine now aside from slightly sore throat.

Hoping it passes quickly for kids, was out of DS' system in a week it seems, most friends have said it only lasted a few days for kids - I checked DS temperature a few times yesterday as well just to be sure and it was fine.

Yuckypretty · 20/01/2022 11:29

Oh yes @MmmmIsee they are definitely having an early long bath...at least until their fingers and toes go wrinkly crinkly!

@Echobelly all my son's classmates are having or just had it and they all seem to get over it quick.

Yesterday was hard work. And I get to do it again today, yay. As soon as my partner finished work I tagged out and went for a half hour walk, just to breathe some fresh air and move my body. (Our lateral flows are still clear and we feel fine... I'm actually starting to wonder if my son's PCR was right!)

I did try to convince him to go in the garden, but he refused and kept taking off any clothes I put on him. He did want to go for a walk but I obvs had to say no which made him cross.

@MmmmIsee Mine is definitely one that needs a good run around every day, he's so full on.

Afternoon bath worked for us last year.

If you don't mind mess my then 3yo liked a bowl of cocoa mud (just cocoa and warm water mixed together) and a bowl of soapy water with a load of plastic animals to get mucky.
