Birthday cake when 5 days between birthday and party

My daughter's birthday is on a Wednesday and her party on the Sunday. Do I get two cakes?!? We aren't big cake eaters. She will need a cake for her party and I feel she should have one on her birthday. The same cake won't keep will it- if we just use it for a photo and not cut it until the party?!

Most will keep that long if you are buying off the shelf at the supermarket.

If made by someone fifth day is the absolute max, I make cakes for friends and family, they keep well under fondant, but by day five I'd expect the sponge to be a bit dry. You could always get a shop bought one for the actual birthday, just a small one, then a different one for the party.

NotTheGrinchAgain · 18/01/2022 22:00

I would make a little cake for her actual birthday, in the past I've put the little cake on a cake board with some indoor sparklers to give it more wow. Alternatively it doesnt have to be a real birthday cake - it could be a Vienetta ice cream, or a cheesecake, or a jelly in a huge bowl with squirty cream on top.

The cake for the party will be sliced up and given away, so you won't have to eat much if it yourselves anyway.

Cupcakes for party!

Two cakes.

spotcheck · 18/01/2022 22:10

Two items. There's no law that says she has to have cake on her birthday. What is her favourite special treat? Just put candles in that.

LittleBearPad · 18/01/2022 22:11

It might be a bit mean to get a cake on Wednesday, get her to blow the candles out and then put it away.

I’d get two or maybe cupcakes for her birthday.

Gocatgo · 18/01/2022 22:12

We’ve done candles in mini Colin caterpillars, bought a box of four cupcakes from a local cake maker and even an arrangement of Krispy Kremes for a small family celebration on their actual birthday and the big cake for the bigger celebration.

Clymene · 18/01/2022 22:15

I'd just do cupcakes at home and then a big cake for her party. If you're not big cake eaters, then you can give most of it away to party guests.

Obviously the cupcake needs to be special with sparkles and have candles etc.

LolaO · 18/01/2022 22:15

Two cakes is what I’d do. They don’t have to be huge (could do fancy fairy cakes for her birthday for example - even if you don’t usually bake fairy cakes are super simple) and you’ll give the party one to the guests so it is not as though you will be eating two cakes as a family.

SoftSheen · 18/01/2022 22:17

Two cakes!

ImInStealthMode · 18/01/2022 22:22

If you're not big cake eaters then 2 cakes is ridiculous.

Cake for the party assuming it's to be shared out with attendees, candle in a cupcake / donut / ice cream / chocolate bar on her birthday.

usernotfound0000 · 18/01/2022 22:22

Similar dilemma here and have ordered a fancy cake for her party and will get supermarket cake (Colin probably!) for her birthday. Any excuse for cake here though!

Ginger1982 · 18/01/2022 22:22

Just buy a small supermarket cake for her actual birthday and get a bigger one for her party.

Heartofglass12345 · 18/01/2022 22:28

I would do 2 cakes as well, a small one on the day even just a normal cake you'd buy for pudding like a Victoria sandwich just big enough for all of you to have a piece, then get a bigger one for her party and give it out to everyone

Bakewelltart987 · 18/01/2022 22:29

Can you not just take a picture of her with it at her party?

katienana · 18/01/2022 22:31

You can get a small choc fudge cake for £2 from most supermarkets.

Blondeshavemorefun · 20/01/2022 10:59

2 cakes. Small one for birthday

Larger one or cupcakes for party
