Can milk supply drastically reduce over the space of 3/4 days?

Little boy has been really poorly had not feeding well, feeding ok enough to have good output but still leaving some fullness behind. I was expressing the extra off 2/3 times a day.
Yesterday all he wanted was to feed feed feed and he was getting quite cross at the boob. Really settled at night though.

But weight wise he was gaining well, but didn’t gain a lot last week. And that means he’s fallen a centile.

Given how he wasn’t feeding well and his behaviour at the boob could my supply have fallen?

His weight is concerning me too on top of this behaviour

Anyone any clues, he’s 6 weeks?

Weight gain still slow, but he’s still unwell so I don’t know what’s what tbh. His fussy behaviour has stopped and I’m sure it’s not low supply as I can pump a decent amount.

I sent a latch video to an IBLBC in a Fb group and they said it all looks good, but my confidence is in the toilet. HV is coming out Monday so I’ll see then if his tongue needs to be done again.

I don't think I'd trust anything the HV says if it's the same one as before! I think any weight gain whilst unwell is a positive thing. Keep going as you are, the fussy period has probably stopped as he's put his order in for more milk and your supply will have increased accordingly. Is nappy output still OK?

I remember 6-8 weeks being such a fussy time, I found it hard at the time because everyone had told me things get easier at 6 weeks. He used to be so fussy at my boob during the day, especially in the mornings although he was fine at night. I think now that it was some kind of developmental leap he was going through because he came out the other side so happy and smiley. 8 weeks is when things got dramatically better.

This sounds like cluster feeding.
Babies cluster feed to increase your supply, the best thing to do is keep him close, skin to skin.
Keep hydrated and we’ll feed and let him feed on demand.
As someone who recently survived the 6 week cluster feeding (my baby is 14 weeks) the behaviour that she did during cluster feeding was :
Head butting the boob,
Screaming and crying while latched
Punching boob,
Latching and unlatching and long feeds

I spoke to the breast feeding helpline as like you I was worried that I wasn’t providing enough milk.
They reassured me that all was fine.

There are several cluster periods during the early months

He got weighed today he’s 5kg at 7+6 so he’s fallen from the 50th centile to just above the 25th but his length and head are 75th. They want to monitor to see if it’s illness related.

He settles for good periods after boobing at night 3+hrs which should mean he’s transferring milk ok. My daughter never settled at night or day when she was struggling but he’s a happy chappy so I’m hoping this was down to his bronchilitis x

Check hehe throughput! Are there wet and dirty nappies? You want plenty of wet nappies at this age. Dirty is not so much of a concern if exclusively breastfeeding.

At least 6 wet nappies in a 24 hour period.
