Child sucks rabbit paw

Have name changed for this as all my friends / family know of the sodding rabbit obsession 🤦‍♀️
So my daughter is 3.5 and since 10 months old has sucked the paw of a toy bunny. We have 5 we wash on rotation as they end up pretty grim! She only really sucks it for nap and night, but it's her best friend and comforter during the day. She chats to it, role plays etc constantly.
Anyway I'm thinking it's actually the same as a dummy and will be damaging her teeth?! Any dentists about who could advise?
Anyone had anything similar? I don't really want to take it away as he's her little friend but nor do I want her teeth ruined.
I've considered sewing it's arms to the side so she can't get at the paws to suck! Any other ideas?!!

I really wouldn’t be worrying about this op, especially if she only sucks it on those occasions.

A little irrelevant but I came on here expecting you to say your daughter was sucking a live rabbit’s paw. I think your situation is better! 😂

My 13 year old dd still sucks the ear of her childhood teddy! It's pretty disgusting but she is thriving Wink

I also thought a live rabbit Grin

I sucked a teddy pigs paws and tail when i was a child, still have the teddy under my bed now, with its matted fur at the paws and tail😂 it was a comfort, I grew out of it, I cant recall my mum having to wean me away from it and never had a problem with my teeth as a child!

DukeofEarlGrey · 17/01/2022 21:42

Yep, same - was expecting live rabbit. And even then I thought it was quite sweet if the rabbit didn't mind.

GemmaRuby · 17/01/2022 21:43

I was imagining taxidermy, so this is much better.

pinkrabbithell · 17/01/2022 21:46

Actually laughing out loud at the image of her sucking a live rabbit. I mean I wouldn't put it past her to try 😂😂

I suddenly came over all nostalgic for my Nanna's fancy rabbit foot brooch, thanks op. The bunny comforter won't harm your child, she'll grow out of it in her own time and her teeth will survive.

Mischance · 17/01/2022 21:47

Really I would not worry about it at all.

Frlrlrubert · 17/01/2022 22:32

I thought you meant one of those 'lucky rabbits foot' things, so I'm relieved.

I'd say if it's only for sleep it's probably ok, and better than the alternatives like dummy or thumb. I'm sure not sucking anything would be preferable, but if it's a comfort thing she might just transfer to the blanket or something if you go to the trouble of taking the rabbit.

Maybe ask your dentist to be sure?

surreymum89 · 17/01/2022 23:10

@Frlrlrubert yes that's what I thought too , my nan kept one that was given to my mum over 50 years ago Envy

DogsandBoysmeanMud · 18/01/2022 11:52

My son did the same and I spent a lot of time looking for a soft octopus to give him more choice of tentacles 🐙 to suck!

He's 17 now and has t done it for years!!

MrsPelligrinoPetrichor · 18/01/2022 11:59

It's fine, ds did the same with a polar bear stuffed animal. Had to wash it every morning as it was sodden Envy
