Newborn girl private parts care

I have a newborn little girl (she's 12 days old) and she has some thick, white, cloudy discharge in-between her labia. As far as I am aware - we are not to clean it, as it will resolve on its own. We have not done anything about it as a result. We only clean the outside areas. Is this right? Thanks in advance :)

Check with your midwife. When my dd was youngbI asked about cleaning the labia and was told to gently part them and clean between but I don't remember any discharge. At that age I was using cotton wool and tepid water.

This. Do check with your midwife but cleaning instructions as above. I was told in classes etc that discharge in the first few weeks is normal if you’re breastfeeding as baby is getting used to your hormones.

Don't be alarmed if there is a touch of blood op. Totally normal.

I second this, nothing to worry about Smile DD1 had blood, DD2 didn't

I’ve got a 2 week old little girl and we were told to leave it to resolve itself

That must be a new thing. It used to be to clean properly with water. I'm sure it 'resolves itself' but not washing (with just water) sounds very odd.

Yes just clean the outside bits, don't clean inside. No harm asking your midwife to check but sounds normal.

I asked the midwife and she said just clean the outside, the vagina is self cleaning and 'rummaging' is just likely to introduce bacteria.

I just clean the outside unless there's had been a poonami that's made its way inside. Then it's a very gentle parting and quick wipe.
