My baby is almost 8 month and he's not babbling yet .. he just smiles at me when I'm trying to teach him . 🥲
And he is not imitating any sound i make ..
started to get worried so I wanted to see if anyone's baby was like that or is it normal ?? 😭

Does he have a dummy?

Howmanysleepsnow · 17/01/2022 19:55

None of mine ever did repetitive gagaga bababa type noises if that’s what you mean? They never copied noises I made either until much later.

LaMadrilena · 17/01/2022 19:56

My nearly 8mo is stuck on "babababa" and "mamamama". Not much in the way of variety of vowels. Or consonants for that matter. I don't think you really need to teach as such, just chat away as you're playing/changing nappies/doing whatever. Then again, I'm a ftm too so hopefully someone with more experience will confirm!

No need to worry yet, babbling can start much later than 8 months. Think DD was 9 months

Caspianberg · 17/01/2022 20:00

Mine has never made babble noises or words at that age. He’s 20 months and in the last few weeks has started saying actual works like dada, mama, please, more, yes

Berivan · 17/01/2022 20:23

@WaterBottle123 actually every single person who sees my baby always says that he must've said "bababab " by now .. i was getting worried.

@Howmanysleepsnow but do they get better later ?? I google these stuff alot and I can't help it 🤦🏻‍♀️ I always read that Babbling is like the foundation to learn other words . I'm so worried these days I can't think of anything else .

Babies do things at all different ages. The only thing I would think worth checking is if baby is hearing ok. Like, do they startle at loud noises, will they look round if you call them out of eyesight?

Honestly, I was worried sick about my little girl. She didn't really babble until about 15 months and was never interested in copying me. Even her eye contact was poor. She just wasn't interested in communicating with me at all, it was very upsetting and worrying. As soon as she learned to walk, everything else just exploded... Six months later I can have little conversations with her, she knows all the animals, alphabet, can count to 20, all sorts. I longed to her her say "mama"... Now I hear that word about 1000 times a day, she constantly wants my attention! She's not even 2 yet. I really believe now that babies do things in their own time. Please try not to worry Flowers

Vicky1989x · 17/01/2022 20:48

My little girl didn’t babble until just after her 1st birthday, don’t worry. She would just shriek and make dinosaur sounds all day up until that point.

WaterBottle123 · 17/01/2022 20:51

@Berivan
Ignore them. Now I think about it, DD2 didn't really babble at all, just said a word around 13 months....

Berivan · 17/01/2022 21:29

@SpiceRat no actually he stopped using it when he was 4 .. suddenly he just didn't like it anymore.

@badg3r I'm %100 sure he's hearing is fine yes he startles if he hears a sudden noise while he's a sleep , and turns around when i call his name .

Any update ?

ToddleToddleToddle · 27/12/2022 09:12

Chill out, Mum! Babies don't know that you're trying to teach them; they're just enjoying doing something with their favourite person!

My boy didn't really babble as a baby. His first word was around 10 months ("bah"-ball), after a few weeks started saying "up" and now at 17 months doesn't stop babbling! Babies have so many skills to learn and they make their own schedule :)
