Nappy bags - we couldn’t find any abroad and we didn’t want to leave the nappies in the bathroom bin to pong us out, so we bagged them up and took them down to the hotel’s outside bins.
If you’re planning on spending a lot of time on the beach and don’t want to return to the hotel for naps, then take a UV+protection pop up beach tent for your 1yo to nap in.
Plastic cutlery
Swim nappies
Some sort of flotation device
Cooler bag/insulated bag - if you’re going to take food to the beach
Buggy sunshade

The only item I ever struggled to get in a few countries was nappies and I never took enough initially as was always assured I could get them. Swim nappies. I always took a little kit with piriton, calpol sachets, dioralyte, sudocrem (nappy rash, sun burn or heat rash, grazes etc). Never bothered with travel cot but only stayed in hotels, and requested a cot prior to arrival. Used muslins over the hood with pegs, baby cool and out of sun. A good suncream, hat and vests cool cotton t-shirts. One or two toys and favourite book. I took Milton tablets for bottle or soppy cups but never cutlery. In hotels I would ask bar staff to put the cups and bottles through the dishwasher to clean them.

When DS was little I always took a couple of balloons. They take up no space and he loved playing with them in the hotel/apartment.
Also, a lightweight buggy you don't mind being thrown around a bit.

Order everything for baby at Boots at the airport and pick up. Doesn't count as extra hand luggage and leaves loads of space in suitcases;
Formula is needed
Nappies, swim nappies
Nappy bags
Wipes
Cream
Sun cream
Calpol
Any snacks/pouches as back up
Bath wash/sponge
Milton tablets

On the plane;
Milk
Water
Food/snacks galore
Books, small hand toys
iPad
Muslins

I highly recommend a snooze shade!
Some of his favourite/smaller toys, books.
First aid kit
Swimming costumes
Short sleeve vests
Rompers (DS wore these in the day when walking about)
Shorts/t shirts
Shoes/sandles
Nighttime outfits
Sun hats
Muslins
Hairbrush/toothbrush
His own cutlery
Extra dummies
Cooler bag/couple plastic tubs (we put fruit etc in this from breakfast for snacks before dinner)
Portable fan to attach to Pram.
Pool bag
Inflatable ring/boat

We used the travel cot the hotel provided, he was fine. So tired from the heat etc he zonked every night.

The lead up is stressful not going to lie but totally worth it once there!

There's no limit on food/milk going through security for baby.
They may just ask you to taste test.

Spare clothes for plane for baby and for you when he vomits or spills stuff on you

A nanny.

If it’s a day flight, more snacks/ food than you think for the journey! My 16 mo barely slept and we ran out of food! The flight attendant was a bit Hmm but eventually gave us a banana out of her own lunch pack 🙈😅
Some toys for the flight, but not so many that the game becomes “drop toy for mummy to pick up again every 30 seconds” 😅
Enjoy your holiday - love the Caribbean 🌴☀️🌊🏝🏖

I have a 3 month old so no experience with 1 year olds but we are in Mexico at the moment so I know a bit about travelling with a baby.

Most tourist places will have baby gear rental services. We rented a playmat but it worked out cheaper to buy a bouncer for around £30 in walmart than it would to rent one for 2 weeks. Not sure what we'll do with it when we leave, hoping our airbnb owner will keep it for future guests use maybe.

Most hotels and some airbnbs will provide a travel cot on request, just check ahead of time. If you bring a collapsible stroller then you can take it right up to plane door and collect it again when you get off. You might even be able to bring it on the flight if it goes in overhead bin.

We flew British Airways and had a bassinet seat which was a lifesaver on the 11 hour flight. They have carrycots for children up to 2 years old.

shivawn · 17/01/2022 14:05

Oh also, we rented a private villa with pool which has been brilliant. We're not sitting around bored stiff in a hotel room while he naps. Of course your one year old might nap less often so might be less of a consideration for you.

@shivawn thank you darling for your tips I will definitely check if my hotel does the cot and I hope you and your family continue to have a lovely holiday x
