Toddler making newborn ill- help!

I’ve got a 2 year old and a 6 week old.

First weeks of life baby caught my cold and then bronchilitis and had to be taken to hospital (c mas eve no less)

Finally getting over it over the c mas period, toddler over colds too, first week back at nursery and bam she’s got another effing cold and now baby does again too, he’s congested, snotty and stools have become thick with mucus. I’m really worried he’s going to get incredibly unwell if this carries on. He’s tiny body can only take so much.

What can I do?

She already washes her hands before touching him and sanitises them regularly and blows her nose into a wet wipe. We don’t let her kiss his face just the back of his head. But she desperately loves him and always wants to hold his hand or hug him. Is there anything I can do?

Should I just stop her from being around him? It would be incredibly difficult and I can’t see it working in practice. I’m breastfeeding and she just likes to sit on the sofa next to him feeding and stroke his head (after a hand sanitize) to stop her would seem punitive but I am genuinely worried about another hospitalisation.

Anyone got any words of wisdom?
Xx

Yes @ldontWanna I think he most likely caught it from me, as we were in closer contact more often (I got it from her). Yes we all do wash and sanitise our hands before touching him especially in light of how Ill I was.

For a general update, it’s bronchilitis again. Took him to see GP and got quite a strong telling off for allowing this to happen, exact words were he’s ‘going to end of on a ventilator if this carries on, he’s only 6 weeks and he’s had bronchilitis twice’ to say I feel like shit is an understatement

I'm so sorry OP and your GP is a total dick. You didn't "let" this happen, you're not omnipotent, you can't stop these things from happening. At least not in a normal, healthy ,non toxic way.

It's absolutely not too much for his tiny body in a short time. He's getting over each infection, they don't stack on top of each other. It doesn't make him weaker.
Saying your toddler is making him ill is the wrong way to think about it. It's the circulating diseases that are making him ill, she's just an unwilling carrier! She sounds lovely. I hope you don't try to keep her away from him or let her see your anxiety.

I can only assume your GP does not have children.

I have 2 kids and the bugs my newborn got was insane... 2 nights of puking bugs on one kid then the 2nd was ill with it. Were getting through the worst of the bugs though... By march it will have significantly calmed down.

Get some
Sambucol for your 2yo, really helps
To boost immunity! It's cheapest on Amazon but can be bought from Boots too

Kanfuzed123 · 14/01/2022 20:10

You are right @FictionalCharacter, we just never experienced this with her as a baby as it was just us and prime lockdown. She’s caught so many bugs from nursery she’s now faltering growth, but I’ve heard just anecdotally post lockdown kids seem to be catching everything and just going from one illness to the next with no rebound time

GP just made me feel so awful and super worried if he’ll rapidly deteriorate over night. It’s so worrying when they’re small

@Kanfuzed123 I would give
The full Winter dose until things settle a bit then you can drop down to once a day. If dc is coming down with anything then give the winter dose again

It massively helped us and lots of others we know

Thanks @onwardsandupwards22 that’s what we’ve been doing, she loves the taste so she won’t complain. I got the adult one for me too as I’m getting ill all the time too, it’s quite tasty lol
