Little one started chocking on food when crying when eating dinner. I’m worried ?

Hello,

Anyone else’s LO done this before? My LG is 14 months and had a hissy fit because her favourite song changed on the IPAD after I just put a large spoonful of dinner in her mouth ( was mashed roast chicken and potato) and as she started to cry she inhaled the food and was chocking and coughing for about 10 seconds. I was tapping her back and facing her forwars and then she stopped coughing and calmed down.

I’m so worried now that she could have inhaled some of the food. I googled it and saw something called aspiration which could lead to pneumonia. I’m a wreck now she has gone to bed. What should I be looking out for? Am I being overly anxious or is this something to worry about? Sad

That sounds like gagging not choking. If you look on YouTube there are lot’s of different videos explaining the difference.

@Fallagain ok thanks it was just the way I heard her breathe it then she went silent and was coughing so much and was very chesty.

Keep an eye on her over next few days, she will in all likelihood be totally fine but on the very small chance she's aspirated, it will become apparent
