How do you get through norovirus with a baby?

Shamefully looking for sympathy. My 1 year old came home from nursery vomitting the other day. He picked up very quickly though and has been fine since.

Me on the other hand, I've had my head (and the other end too!) down a toilet since yesterday and it's not letting up.

DH is with DS today but has to go to work tomorrow and I'm dreading it!

You have my sympathy OP. When ds was 7 months old, DH and I both came down with a horrible stomach bug. Probably Noro. We had to take it in turns to look after ds for an hour at a time. It was horrible. 13 years later I still remember it well!

In your situation, I would suggest 2 things. Tell your DH now that he needs to prepare for the possibility that he may have to take tomorrow off work to care for DS if you are unable to. The second thing is that DH may well be off tomorrow anyway with his own head down the loo. Either way, now is the time to think about what needs to be done in relation to work on Monday.

DH takes the day off if you're too sick to be able to provide childcare.

If you have to, then you sit DS in front of the telly and feed him crap out of packets until you're able to do anything more.

But here's some sympathy Flowers

Make sure you have a stash of buckets/bowls in case you all get sick at the same time in future.

Depends on how bad you are. I was so sick that my oh had to take 5 days off. My dd had been vomiting and didn’t eat for so many days that I took her into a and e on Friday night as I couldn’t get a doctors app and I was panicking. They ended up sending her home but keeping me in on a drip as I was collapsing with dehydration. If your oh doesn’t stay off then make sure you have everything you need to hand. Bunk down in whichever rooms the most convenient and stock up with fluids/meds/sick buckets/towels etc.

I had this back in October. My husband had to to take the first day of it off work. I was being sick and the other constantly and if I wasn't I was having cramps or sleeping it off. Giving you some time to recover will make your recovery time shorter. He only needed one day off and I was able to function the day after enough to look after my son. He unfortunately got it later that week so ended up off sick himself

When it went through our house, 3 year old recovered before the rest of us got it (actually must have been rotavirus as DS2 had been vaccinated and didn't get it)

DP took DS1 to MILs, I stayed with the (breastfed) baby, and just did what I could - I actually fainted off the toilet on the worst day! I was extremely careful never to carry him if I felt dizzy, always to put him down somewhere safe when I ran to the toilet, and we just got through it in a couple of days. Not saying it was the best way, but we all got through!

Oh you poor thing, I had this a few months back and totally sympathise. It’s horrible. Echo what PP have said, can your DH work from home or take a day’s leave? I’m sure his colleagues don’t want to be exposed to it! And can he just bring baby to you for feeds if still needed? That’s what we did and with lots of hand washing my husband managed to avoid catching it. We also had help from my MIL but she did catch it very badlyand I felt so guilty!

DH takes the day off to do childcare as you are too ill.

longcoffeebreak · 09/01/2022 21:11

This happened to me as a single parent it was horrendous. I was a mess. It was a mess. This was the moment i realised it never ever stops even when you are REALLY ill!!

Kbyodjs · 09/01/2022 21:21

I had this when DD was about 11 months and I just focused on surviving the day(s), slept when she did and as soon as she went to bed so did I. I lay on the floor while she played and let her watch a lot of tv

gamerchick · 09/01/2022 21:24

He can't go to work if you have noro.
It may not be and you could be fine tomorrow and he'll have his head down the lav.

I proper feel sorry for you man, sounds bloody awful.
