Out and about double buggy - waist straps question

Hello,

I am pregnant at the moment with baby No 2 and we went today to view in real life an out n' about double buggy.

We loved everything apart from the waist straps...

We tried to put our 22 month old DD in it and put straps on and they just fitted her around her waist at the biggest setting and without her coat on... We wouldn't be able to put the straps with her coat on!

The shoulder straps were quite spacious though and seem to have some room for growing.

Does anybody else had this issue with the waist straps?

We would like to use the buggy for at least 1.5 years ahead and our DD is not even 2yrs yet... Confused

Do you use it without the harness with older toddlers?

Please tell me that we missed something as it's otherwise a lovely buggy!

Which buggy is it?

The out and about double nipper buggy (not the sport one).

I hate those type of straps as they are more difficult to extend. Did you definitely have them at their max?

You can also attach reins using D clips as an alternative for toddlers to pushchairs (I think all).

I have this buggy and no issues with the straps fitting my very tall nearly 3 year old. Only thing I find annoying is the way the waist and shoulder strap aren’t together and you have to slot them in every time.

Brilliant buggy though, think I’ll get loads more use out of it.

Interesting… Is your 3yr old slim, normal or chubby?

Mine is on the chubbier side of the spectrum 😅

Also does your kid fit ok with coat on or without?

Also do you also have the waist straps at the max setting?

I don’t know what went wrong today… I just had to squish her belly to put the straps on around her waist and she was not wearing her coat :-(

I can’t seem to find a better buggy and I don’t know what to do now!

And @Temple29 do you have the single nipper or the double one?

To be honest I rarely used the straps anyway. With a belly bar on and the seats being quite narrow I never bothered strapping the toddler in.

I'm a childminder and have the out and about. I usually have the children in there in snowsuits etc and older children and never have a problem with the waist? I do sometimes leave off the shoulder ones as they're tight but seems like the opp to your situation

Helenluvsrob · 09/01/2022 14:34

Please do use the straps every time.

I slipped on a concrete path on a beach ( had s as thin covering of sand but could easily have been mud / leaves / frost ) . Damaged my knee badly and left 18 month old youngest dangling upside down in her all terrain 3 wheeler buggy.

She would have literally been out straight on her head has she not had the full 5 point harness on.

We have the double for DTs who are 20 months. They were puffy snowsuits in the pushchair with no problems. Are you sure the straps can’t be loosened?

Thank you for the answers! Maybe we did something wrong… I think we should go again to try it.

@Looneytune253 I guess you have experience then with many kids! Up to what age do you think a chubby toddler fits in?

I had a particularly chubby toddler in at about age 3. Mostly they start walking more at that point. After around age 2.5 I don't tend to strap them in tho but it's possible

Thank you all!

We will go again at the shop to have a second look of it :)

I am now convinced that we did something wrong!
