Mountain Buggy Duet

Can you please tell me all cons of the Mountain Buggy Duet as I am only reading pros and it must be something wrong.... right?

Also, what worries me is how narrow the seats are.

My DD is a tall and chubby little toddler, soon to be 2 years old and we are expecting baby number 2 soon.

Will it last her until 3.5ish to 4yrs?

I know it's the narrowest double buggy hence my worry...

Any experiences will be very welcome :)

We decided against it due to how narrow the seats are. We have the out n about nipper double and it’s great, I’ve never had any problem getting it through doors and it’s lovely to push

I have a duet and really like it. But it is a bit on the heavy side, I can still lift into the car by myself. The seats aren't as upright as my single pram so I think my DS found it a little odd to start off with but is fine now. You can buy straps to make the seats more up right which I'm thinking about the DD when we put her in the world facing seat.

When you have one parent facing and one world facing seat the world facing seat doesn't have a belly bar/tray - it comes with a double one so you need both world facing seats on.

DS is 20 months and approx 50th percentile and there is still plenty of room. The carrycot/parent facing seat is narrow though. DD is small and it still looks a bit snug with a pram suit/blanket etc with the current weather.

I got the aero tech wheels as couldn't be bothered with punctures/sliming the wheels etc. Really easy to push and good basket size.

Hopitihop · 07/01/2022 14:37

Thank you both!

@LBB2020 I am also worried about the same and leaning towards the out and about. My DD will be 2 when the baby arrives and is 98th percentile in height and weight...

Two questions on out and about please.

  1. Do the fabrics come off? I can see that there is a seat liner but are the internal fabrics getting dirty and can you take them off to clean them? We currently have a single buggy that the fabrics don't come off and it's so dirty that it drives mad...
I know that with the mountain buggy you can take all fabrics off and wash them.
  1. Can you change the tires to ones that don't get punctured like you can do with a mountain buggy duet with the aero tech wheels?

@LBB2020 Also what is the widest part of the out and about? Is it the wheels?

I am asking as our front door is quite narrow and I need to know where will be the point of struggle...

I preferred the look of mountain buggy but I have a friend with it and the seats really are tiny.
So I went for the out n about double.

Eileen101 · 07/01/2022 15:25

We have the mountain buggy duet and the seats being narrow in comparison to others is news to me Grin
Our almost 4 year old goes in ours (only on a long family walk of 5-10 miles etc or a day out so he can have a sit down) and easily still fits.
We love ours. It's helpful that it fits through doorways so well too.

Eileen101 · 07/01/2022 15:28

Oh, sorry, I forgot the con.

The only one I have is that in their most upright position, the seats are fairly reclined in relation to our single "city pushchair". 18 month old doesn't seem to notice or care; almost 4 year old cares in case we're trying to trick him into a daytime nap Wink

LBB2020 · 07/01/2022 15:48

The seat liners can be removed and popped in the washing machine (they are secured by Velcro and don’t move around), you can’t remove the rest as far as I’m aware. I’ve not found ours has got too grubby as the seat liners catches everything.
The tyre can be changed yes. We’ve had slime put in ours and not had any punctures.
Yes, the wheels are the widest part. They are easily removed if you need to

Hopitihop · 09/01/2022 13:37

@LBB2020 We went today to see an out n about double in real life.

We loved it but the waist straps were way too tight for our 22month old DD at the max setting.

Did you have this issue at all?

Shoulder straps seemed fine but the waist ones were super tight.

Our DD has a quite big belly to be honest but she is not even 2years old yet, so it shouldn't have been an issue!

Please advise as we otherwise loved the buggy!

Many thanks :)

Hi @Hopitihop, no we’ve not had that problem, our 4.5 year old still has plenty of room (he’s pretty average for his age). Are you sure the straps were lengthened properly?

Nahhh · 09/01/2022 16:20

My very tall 5 year old used to ride in it with his baby sister on his knee when he first started school and was knackered at the end of the day.

I had some puncture issues with the back tyres but I suspect that was due to said very large 5 year old riding on a buggy board.

EducatingArti · 09/01/2022 16:26

The out and about also has D rings so you could use separate baby reins and clip to those if the straps aren't right.

Incywinceyspider · 09/01/2022 16:46

We've gone for a (second hand) Bugaboo donkey duo

DappledThings · 09/01/2022 23:16

Used our MB Duet till DC1 was nearly 4. I never thought of the seats being narrow. Was never an issue fitting in even in depths of winter with multiple layers of clothing and blankets.

Himawarigirl · 10/01/2022 14:01

I used mine with a baby and a toddler and I also never thought or heard of the seats being narrow. I absolutely loved it. I briefly used a friend’s nipper and didn’t like it at all. There was barely any basket and if you loaded stuff on the handle and the kids were out of the buggy it tipped back. The duet has a massive basket which I adored, it was so light and easy to push, fit everywhere and was nice and stable.

Tay17 · 10/01/2022 14:04

LOVE our mountain buggy!

Effram · 10/01/2022 14:10

We have it and love it. My 3.5yr old still fits in it comfortably given half a chance! fits through doors, big basket, easy to fold when you have the knack.

Iamkmackered1979 · 10/01/2022 14:15

I had it for mine didn’t like it, bulky and tiny seats kids weren’t comfy so got the baby jogger double

river12 · 10/01/2022 22:15

We’ve tried so many double buggies but have found the Mountain Buggy Duet to be our favourite. The con for us though is that it’s quite bulky and heavy to fold down and put in the boot of the car.
