Rear facing car seat in front seat of car?

Baby is 8.5 months old and 23lbs. Think that's around 10.5kg??

Anyway, my partner has a 3 door car and he struggles badly with psoriatic arthritis. We ha e a car seat that's rear facing in his car which is currently fitted with isofix but it is a pain in the arse to get baby into it, especially when he's using his new stiff noodle trick where he straightens his legs when we're putting him in and does not bend.

I've tried to do research online and only found a few articles saying that putting the car seat in the front is OK as long as airbags are switched off and it's just as safe as the back as long as they're rear facing. But idk whether I'm just seeing what I want to see as it would be far, far more convenient for us to be able to belt him in the front.

Anyone know anything about this? I don't want to compromise his safety. We've got a good quality, expensive, car seat.

If the seat says it can be installed in the front seat in your car (check car seat installation guide) and the airbag is off I can't see any reason why not.

However it has to be compatible - and many aren't front seat compatible.

Front is fine but the bit about the airbags being off is vital. They must be deactivated or it’s incredibly dangerous in an accident

You'll find stuff online saying that children should go in the back because it's "safer" but what that means is just that the back seat is in the middle of the car not the front corner, so it's slightly more protected in the event of a catastrophic front end collision. It's not intrinsically unsafe in the way that a baby travelling without a child seat is.

(The airbag thing is a real danger though)

You need to check your car’s manual.

We always had dd on the front seat.my car had isofix points on the front passenger seat so we could easily keep her rear facibg. Yes to turning airbags off, and juat be aware depending on size of car seat you will probably have to move seat back to be able to see your side mirror!
