Late bed time

Is it a big problem for my 20 month old to have a late bedtime? Usually 9-10pm, she also wakes up late so get 10-12hours of sleep every night. I come from a background where this was completely normal when I was born in the 80s and it still is very normal at present.

I live in the UK so when I tell other mum friends about my little one’s bedtime I feel like I am being judged as their babies sleep by 7.30

She doesn’t go to nursery at the moment so doesn’t need to wake up early. I have tried to bring her bedtime earlier but it just takes so long for her to sleep that it ends up being her usual time anyway.

Is it ok to carry on as we are?

I think whatever works for your family at that age.

Just be aware that at some point you’re going to need to bring her into a more typically British routine to make sure she gets enough sleep for school/nursery hours, and it might be wise to start that earlier than you think you need to, in case of issues.

But you do you, as the huns say!

“Typically British” in slightly ironic quotation marks, I might add!

The only thing you need to be aware of is gradually bringing bedtime and wake up earlier say by 15 minutes a week over a few months in time for school. Otherwise there is no issue with this at all.

Of course it's fine, if it fits in with YOUR life.
