Anyone use the BT Smart Monitor with 5” Screen? Help!

We’re onto our second after having to have it replaced due to a faulty battery in the parent unit.

We’re a few months into using this one and now sometimes when I switch on the parent unit there is barely any sound (DS sleeps with white noise so there is a constant sound from the monitor usually). The app is the same. The only way to fix it seems to be switching the camera off and on at the plug umpteen times until the situation resolves 😴

Can anyone shed any light? Am I going to have to deal with another replacement? 😭

I sent it back, waste of space. Even tried the model below without the app and it still went faulty after a few months.

Mine does this. Switch of and on again solves it but it’s so annoying!

BDavis · 05/01/2022 21:08

@Xiomara22 @HardonCollider it’s horrendously annoying! Took me about 10 off/on cycles to get it working again tonight. I just don’t trust it anymore. I’m worried about it cutting out in the night and me not hearing our baby.
Going to have a look for a different type and send this one back as faulty!

We’ve got a vtec one now and can’t fault it so far. No app though for this one.

@Xiomara22 I did see some good things about a vtech one when I was researching what one to buy before our baby was born. We went for the BT one as we need a smart monitor that works through an app and we need a parent unit too and there doesn’t seem to be many that have both. Lots of the smart ones only seem to have an app.

We had the same issue! We had to replace the first one as it was faulty and kept disconnecting from the camera and beeping loudly, then the second had this really muffled sound issue. You could see sound on the parent unit lights but couldn't hear it - so totally pointless! I think we got through three in the end and then went for a different brand (which to be honest hasn't been perfect either). I wonder if the cheaper models are actually simpler and more reliable.

@chocopuffs it’s so frustrating isn’t it?! We went for that one as it had a huge number of good reviews but we’ve had nothing but trouble! And when we had a faulty one it was nothing but hassle! We’d bought directly from BT, they agreed it was faulty and it was a known fault and were happy to replace it but we had to send their exchange process took 21 days 😳🙄 they told me they couldn’t see an issue with being without a monitor for 3 weeks! So I ended up buying another and just getting a refund for the original.

Looking for another brand as wee speak! If anyone knows of a smart monitor with an app AND a parent unit then please let me know 😊

@BDavis we had the very same experience! Ended up having to order a new one (which then turned out to be faulty) before sending the first one back and waiting for the refund. I bought the next one from Argos so at least I could return in store. We went for a Motorola which to be fair worked really well for a while but the parent unit button got stuck. I'm not sure if we were just unlucky though. I was also surprised by all the good reviews on the BT one! The Motorola camera also has a much better panning function if that's any use to you! But I found setting the wifi up a bit fiddly.

@chocopuffs I’ll have a look at Motorola. Thanks 😊 as long as it has a parent unit and an app I’ll try anything. I keep hearing great things about the Nanit but there’s no parent unit with that!

@BDavis if you do try Argos, they seem to be pretty good about returns in store if it's faulty. Ours is the Motorola MPB855 (or something like that) around £150 and works well. I was recommended it by a friend. It's weird because no one else I know has had issues with the BT one!

KLM19 · 07/01/2022 20:59

Call BT and they give you a fault code to return for replacement.. mine did the exact same.. clearly a fault with them.

IsItAllOverYetPlease · 07/01/2022 21:12

we've had the same issue with ours and returned the first 2! I've seen good things before about the Kodak one. I forgot about it but am now thinking maybe I should try to return the bt again and get the kodak.
seems to have a parent unit and app.
