What time does your toddler nap?

My 18 month old appears to be transitioning to one nap. Up until recently she’s been waking at 7, nap at 10 & 2 and bed at 7pm. She’s recently started waking at 8 am and then not been tired enough to nap at 10, we pushed the morning nap back and that made the afternoon nap later. Today she woke at 8 am, then napped at 1.30 for two hours but was then overtired at bedtime.
I’d like to hear what time you do lunch and nap. We are thinking of waking her at 7am (as much as a lie in is lovely!) so we can get back into a schedule based on 7wake up 7pm bedtime.
Thank you 😊

Like 1pm ideally for 2 hours

He’s 19 months and has been doing this for a number of months now - since maybe August/Sept time I think - if not earlier.

He’s an early riser awake around 6am. 7pm bedtime.

Lockdownmummy · 05/01/2022 19:43

20 month old naps after lunch. At nursery this tends to be between 12 and 12:30 for about 2 hours. At home can be later depending on lunch plans but generally no later than 1:30 again for 2 hours or so.

He is an early riser though and is rarely still asleep at 7am. Bed time 7pm.

We had a rough couple of weeks transitioning to one nap with some very odd nap times but is pretty reliable now!

Bigoldmachine · 05/01/2022 19:44

Mine is 16 months old and transitioned to one nap at about 14 months I think. At first he would sometimes have a short morning nap and sometimes not, then gradually dropped the morning nap entirely.

So now he wakes up at about 6am, lunch at 12 and nap at 12.30/1pm latest. Sleeps 1.5-2 hours. Bedtime is 7pm and he’s always asleep by 7.30. I works for him, just the right amount of tired at bedtime. Wish I could shift the wake time but both of my kids are larks and I’ve just learned to accept the early wake up!

15 months, wakes between 6:30-7 and has a nap 11-1 then bedtime at 7:30. Still wakes up a lot in the night though!

Caspianberg · 05/01/2022 19:46

20 month ideally naps 1-2/3pm (1-2hr nap)

He wakes at 6am, bed at 8.30pm.

I think he last had two naps around 10/11months. Definitely wouldn’t be tired at 10am

I recently synced my 1 and 3 year olds so that they both nap at about 11:30-1:30. Living the dream Grin

19 months old and naps from 1-3 (give or take 15 mins either side), he's in bed by 6.30 and up by 7 most days.

merrygoround23 · 05/01/2022 20:14

Mines 2 (27 months) and he dropped his nap around 24 months. Occasionally will have one if we've had a crazy day.

3WildOnes · 05/01/2022 20:20

Mine is 2 and transitioned to 1 nap a couple of months ago.
She wakes between 7 and half past. Naps 11.30-1.30 and bed at 7.
When she first transitioned to one nap she was going down between 10 and 11 and then going to bed at 6ish.

Temple29 · 05/01/2022 20:34

My 16 month old is still on 2 naps but when he drops the morning nap I plan on giving him a light lunch at 11:30, nap at 12 and a more filling snack around 3. My 2.5 year old still sleeps 12:30-3 so I’m hoping DS2 follows suit and sleeps until 3.

If they wake earlier then I usually put them down to bed early, maybe 6:30 instead of 7 and they usually still sleep until 7am.

AliceW89 · 05/01/2022 20:37

19, nearly 20 month old

Wakes between 6:45 and 7:15
Nap between 12:45 - 14:30 (we wake him if he isn’t already awake)
Bedtime 7:45. Generally sleeps through.

Has always been better with slightly more awake time in the morning than afternoon. Dropped to 1 nap at about 15 months. Initially he was exhausted by 11:45. We never let the nap be earlier than 12, to fit with nursery and to accommodate lunch. It’s just naturally moved back a bit and got a bit shorter as he has tolerated longer awake time.

Sausagesausagesausage · 05/01/2022 20:55

14mo - naps between 12-2ish. Bed at 7.30, wakes anytime between 6.30-7.30.

Vicky1989x · 05/01/2022 20:55

Transition to 1 nap is quite hard, you might experience overtiredness, early wakings etc but it doesn’t last long!

My DD is 20 months. We’re up at 6am 3 days a week because I work so she usually naps 10:30-12:30 bed at 7. On my days off she generally wakes between 7-7:30 so she naps 12:30-2:30 and bed for 7:30 (but usually doesn’t go to sleep until well after 8 Hmm) - she’s always needed a longer wake window before bedtime though.

Like PP she dropped to 1 nap at 15 months and getting her to lunch was difficult. She was still napping before lunch (so 11-1) for a while then I gradually swapped it around.

TonkinLenkicks · 05/01/2022 21:04

18 month old has been having 1 nap for about 6 months. Wakes about 7, 12-2ish nap, 6pm bed time. Although her night sleeping is extremely hot and miss. We have tried different times etc but nothing works and we’re still up at 3am watching shrek Hmm

MrsCremuel · 05/01/2022 21:43

@bloodywhitecat I’m curious, what time does you’re 3yo get up? My DS is 2yrs8 months and will nap 11-13 but in another event thread people told me that was and odd schedule for a 2yo!

3WildOnes · 05/01/2022 21:44

I forgot to say, we don’t actually do a proper lunch because she is sleeping over lunch time but I give her a snack at about 11, usually cheese, crackers and veg crudités and then another snack at about 2 of soup and toast or eggy bread.

Mamabear04 · 05/01/2022 22:07

When my DD dropped to one nap she started refusing her afternoon nap. She used to nap at 10am and 2pm so we pushed her to one nap at 11.30pm and she took about 2 weeks to get used to it (she sleeps 7pm-7am). She has always been an early napper compared to other toddlers of her age but once she got used to having one nap she would go down closer to 12noon i would always wake her at 1.30pm so the wake windows was large enough before bedtime

Itsnoteasyfeelingqueasy · 06/01/2022 09:25

Thanks everyone, we are going to aim for nap about 12 for the next few days and see how she does. I think we will have to do the split lunch thing as I think she will be overtired to eat if we push it all later.

Wow!

What is your secret? 😩

rocky1914 · 06/01/2022 11:16

Toddler? Nap?!

I should be so lucky! 😩

I envy every single person whose toddler still naps 😭😭

shivbo2014 · 06/01/2022 11:50

My 2 1/2 year old naps about midday until 2. He's going to bed later every night though, so I'm thinking I might have to start cutting it out 😭

Bobholll · 06/01/2022 12:05

My youngest dropped to one nap at 12 months Confused but it does make life easier to be fair.

Between 12-18 months, she napped 10am-12pm and then bed at 7pm.

But then nursery put her on a ‘toddler’ schedule for naps & it’s shifted at home too. Since 18 months, she’s been doing 11.30/12-1.30/2pm. She has lunch after her nap. She isn’t hungry before it.

DD is 21 months now & we’ve just started limiting nap to an hour or she won’t sleep until gone 8.30! Which is a complete no. Limiting nap means bedtime is back to just after 7pm! I suspect DD2 might drop naps early.. DD1 dropped them at 2yrs 10 months.. we’ll see!

Caspianberg · 06/01/2022 12:07

@rocky1914 - if mine has even a 90second nap in the car, that’s him fully napped for the day. He easily powers through from 6am-8/9pm on those 90seconds

Oh wow! He sounds like the male version of my DD! I call them bionic children because how on earth do they do it? It's not like they're sat down all day doing nothing, I just don't get it!
