Hi,

First time mum, due in March. Just looking for recommendations for nappies for newborns? I guess pampers are going to score highly, but i am wondering about brands like Kit + Kin etc.

I tried lots and my favourite hands down are lidl or aldi. Both have baby events with offers but are super reasonable. I found them a much better fit than pampers as well for my DC.

Frazzlerock · 04/01/2022 14:41

Depends really. We chose to cloth and put our baby in muslins and wraps to start with, then it was the slippery slope of beautiful cloth nappies Grin
The 'biodegradable' disposables don't really biodegrade in landfill due to lack of oxygen. But I gather they're produced more environmentally friendly than the big brands so might be worth investing in them if you're not keen to use cloth.

Mind you, we just bought Pampers when we needed sposies in an emergency. If I were to use them full time, I'd probably look into the more eco ones.

Lidl and Sainsbury's own brand

Aldi for all sizes for me xx

gogohm · 04/01/2022 14:48

I personally used disposables (own brand) for newborn size then switched to prefolds and wraps reusables at around 6 weeks (mine were tiny). Do look at reusables so much better and you don't run out (assuming you have a washer and dryer)

Asda little angels - never had a leak with these

mermaidgiraffe · 04/01/2022 16:44

I like Morrisons, Aldi and Asda. Haven't tried Lidl.

Sainsbury's and Tesco's leaked for me

Anything else is overpriced

moonlight1705 · 04/01/2022 16:48

Aldi for us too.

Sainsbury and Tesco also leaked for us. Pampers were not a superb fit either.

GrendelsGrandma · 04/01/2022 16:49

Don't bother with fancy brands, they only shit on them! Aldi are cheap and reliable.

GrendelsGrandma · 04/01/2022 16:52

Also many newborn nappies have a little stripe on the front that tells you if your child has done a wee so you can change it.

This is a con, you don't need to change a nappy the instant a baby does a wee, unless they seem unhappy about it. They can absorb a lot before you need to change and most babies are not fond of nappy changes so it makes sense to avoid unnecessary ones (for the environment too).

PinkWaferBiscuit · 04/01/2022 16:55

Aldi here too. No leaks, great quality and fab price.

No point spending a fortune on something when the cheaper brands do the same job.

NoMoreTractors · 04/01/2022 16:57

Pampers here. My eldest was fine with Aldi but anything except pampers seems to make DD sore.

Chely · 04/01/2022 17:18

If you want to be eco friendly try out cloth nappies, a nappy library is best to find which brand works for your baby.

With disposable we've had huggies and pampers which were great but more expensive. Currently use Asda's little angels and they have been great for our almost 5 month old, she's in to size 4 now. Their newborn ones are nice and soft.

Whathefisgoingon · 04/01/2022 17:28

We found Pampers to be the best.

The Sainsbury’s own etc all leaked for us.

addler · 04/01/2022 17:29

Aldi premium nappies for us too. Then when big enough on to cloth.

Twizbe · 04/01/2022 17:31

Loved Aldi and sainsburys nappies.

Best tip is only buy 1 pack of size 1 and 1 pack of size 2 now.

Once baby is born you can buy more but they grow fast. Both mine (over 9lbs at birth) were out of size 1 by 2 weeks old.

Cr17 · 04/01/2022 18:17

I used the Aldi premium ones up to size 3, I didnt rate the aldi ones from size 4 so I was recommended the tesco ones, been using them for a few weeks now and they seem to be fine!

saywhatwhatnow · 04/01/2022 19:50

Aldi for newborn, Lidl and Asda for all the other sizes. I found sainsburys and coop gave them rashes, and Tesco ones go all bulky and weird when they are wet. Pampers are good but expensive, we sometimes use them if they are on a good offer.

fullofpips · 04/01/2022 19:52

We use Kit & Kin and really like them. We use the subscription program so they come in the post which is handy.

Allthesefolks · 04/01/2022 19:55

Aldi for all sizes but didn’t like their pull ups, always bought/buy Pampers pull ups when they’re on offer. Tesco were also fine.

OtiMama · 04/01/2022 19:56

I found for the smaller sizes it didn't matter what brand, in fact cheaper ones like Aldi and Lidl were better. I would get one small pack of several brands and try them out, so you aren't left with tonnes you don't like.

Aldi premium are way better than pampers imo but only from sizes 1-3. Size 4 co op are the best ones I've tried
ffscovid · 04/01/2022 20:05

Cloth nappies all the way. Disposables leak liquid poo up babies' backs resulting in several changes of clothes each time we used them. We never had this issue using cloth nappies.
I liked Tots Bots and Bumgenius but there is much more choice now.

Honestly never ever had this problem with any disposable nappies we used, I really wouldn't say it was a downside to using disposable nappies.

Doublechocolatetiffin · 04/01/2022 20:19

I like the Amazon ones. I used pampers exclusively for my first born. Second born I started to question the fact that they leaked loads and moved to the Asda ones. I liked those, especially as they were £5 for 80 nappies or something like that. Then this time I found the Amazon ones. I just set up a subscribe and save and nappies and wipes are delivered on a monthly basis or as required. Fantastic!
