Travel crib cot recommendations? Driving and air travel

Hi just wondering what travel cribs people recommend? For a 1yo, for weekends away and holidays. I want it to be comfortable and easily transportable, will use for day naps at friends and family too. Leaning towards the the BabyBjorn light travel cot as it’s 6kg and seems to fold up and down easily. Haven’t seen reviews of the mattress itself though. Thanks in advance.

I had the red kite (I got it from asda)...I'm using it next to the bed initially and then solely as a travel cot afterwards.

The mattresses are really hard on all the travel cots that I've seen so make sure you take that into consideration. I bought a soft mattress to go on top.

We have the babybjorn. It’s really good and worth the extra imo. It folds small for air travel, and fits in our small car with other luggage and pram.
Ds slept in it 2 months last year whilst house renovations and it’s a decent mattress. He actually slept in last night as decorating his room so he slept in ours.

Thank you @Dipsydoodlenoodle and @Caspianberg. How old are your babies when using them? Mine is a toddler.

Yeah the mattress comfort is what concerns me most, I was hoping the extra £££ would mean a comfier mattress. I’ve been reading reviews, and wondered if MN would say they’re same across all the price ranges because they have to be portable. The MN travel crib guide said Nuna Sena had comfy mattress but I’m not sure if that’s just sponsorship and I’ve not used that brand before. There’s a Cuggl that looks like the BabyBjorn but our Cuggl baby gate was awful so wouldn’t get that brand again. Really happy with our BabyDan baby gate so interested in reviews of their travel cot too.

@BakeOffRewatch - my son is now 20 months. He slept in it last night just as well as usual cot, and mattress is pretty thick.

He’s fairly tall and still seems to have plenty of room

BakeOffRewatch · 04/01/2022 18:58

Thanks @Caspianberg. Just saw the Nuna Sena is 11kg, so definitely ruled out, compared to BabyBjorn 6kg. Just hoping someone comes along to say they’ve compared the mattress to say the Red Kite and it’s definitely better - £245 spend is ouch (but hoping to do lots of trips this year so will be worth it).

@BakeOffRewatch - sorry no haven’t compared. But we did try and use a hauck one in a holiday apartment when Ds was 3 months and just trying to get the bloody thing up made me want to hurl it out the window! ( Ds slept in his pram for 3 nights in the end).

I found this article toddlertrips.co.uk/advice/best-travel-cots/

Between the £159 Maxi Cosi Iris 5.4kg and £245 BabyBjorn Light 6kg. Will sleep on it one more night (haha).

We have a Micralite Sleep and Go. Brought a travel cot after staying in a cottage and the mattress in the travel cot there was like a wooden board!

Seems comfy and a bit cheaper than the BB

BakeOffRewatch · 10/01/2022 11:55

Thanks @Lockdownmummy, will loop that one up. I’ve been ill so didn’t buy one last week as I certainly wasn’t going anywhere this weekend.

Which did you end up getting and how long did it last? From the small one you got, did you reach the weight limit fast? I am looking at the two from newton, one is a bit bigger in space and little heavier, when flying it will be checked luggage and the other one is like 6kg and fit in the overhead, but it is slightly smaller.

BakeOffRewatch · 24/09/2025 18:18

Hi @AriaLoncer i bought the Bugaboo Stardust that was available at the time for £225 price hasn’t changed https://www.naturalbabyshower.co.uk/collections/bugaboo-stardust . I never planned to fly with it, it was for UK breaks and friends and family houses. This was perfect unfold and fold up in seconds, and can do one handed. It’s also very slim when folded so fits between wardrobe/bookshelf and wall at home, and between the rear facing car seat and passenger seat. My kids are low centile so lasted until they could climb out. I wish I’d got it long before as it’s a great place to park baby safely as well when doing something. With my second I used it for day naps when they were newborn wherever I was in the house as it’s easy to collapse and move around. When I’ve been abroad I’ve used the travel cot provided by the hotel and have been ok with that.

I can’t remember why I chose this one over the others, but I know what I value is that you can fold it up with the bassinet/without mattress and the without bassinet/mattress inside. No taking apart needed.

Bugaboo Stardust Travel Cot | Natural Baby Shower

The Bugaboo Stardust travel cot stays in one piece and pops up instantly in one second, you can unfold it one-handed too. Perfect for on-the-go parents.
