We started weaning our DS at 6 months old things have been going well with weaning, he has breakfast and tea. We first started following the ellas kitchen 1 veg a day thing for 2 weeks and he now for breakfast has been having porridge, toast, mashed banana and ellas kitchen fruit pouches. For tea he has been having a heinz jar of baby food and fruit or yogurt for after. Now he is 7 months old I want to try different things and I don't know where to start!
What sort of things did you offer your baby for breakfast at 7 months?
Ideas for toppings on the toast?
I also want to start introducing allergen foods... any ideas on how to do this?
I also have alot of the pureed veg from before (as I batch cooked it) in the freezer any ideas of how to use this up?
I know I probably sound stupid in this post haha, this is all new to me.

TIA x

I mixed the puréed veg with pasta, cous cous and rice to get rid of it. You can buy baby pasta from boots.

Some other ideas

  • boiled egg and soliders. I cut the egg up as finger food
  • scrambled egg
  • vegetable soup with bread and butter
  • egg muffins / quiche
  • fish pie
  • shepherds/cottage pie
  • beans/spaghetti hoops with mash potato and a little cheese

Lots of ideas on Pinterest too!

I used to give a pouch or jar for lunch then something homemade for tea.

@MamaEs thank you for your reply.
That's a good idea to use the veg up thank you :).
With the boiled egg was it cut up into quarters? And are they allowed the yolk?
Thank you for those ideas, it's so simple when you know what your doing 🙈😂

Yeah I gave mine soft boiled egg, it didn't do her any harm. I cut it up long ways if that makes sense. Easier for them to hold on to.

You can get extra low salt stock cubes too. I found them handy for making soups and gravy.

Mine also liked sweet potato wedges (peeled first then roasted) with a little sprinkle of paprika. I saw there was paprika in an Ella's chilli pouch which she liked so tried it on the sweet potato and it went down well.

I also would give par boiled carrot sticks (just to soften them) and plain pasta (boiled with a low salt chicken stock cube to give some flavour) as snacks/finger food. I would put them in the fridge in bags so I could grab and go. Or she'd have them as part of a meal with a dairylea sandwich. She also liked egg Mayo and tuna sandwiches.

Plain peas and sweetcorn on her train always went down well too. Yours may be a bit young but it's good for their grip to pick them up.

My daughter really liked crumpets and pikelets too.

Anything you can put on a jacket potato went down well too. Tuna, beans etc.

@MamaEs ahh yerr I get what you mean with the egg, I will definitely try that.
You've gave me some good ideas there, me and my DH aren't exactly ones for veggies but I really want to try for my DS, so I'm literally learning as I go along haha 😅.
How long do you keep them in the fridge for? Can they be frozen too? 🙈
Do you slice the sandwiches just like the toast? Finger sized slices?
Would you take the 'jacket' off the potato?
I'm just asking these questions as I'm petrified of choking aswell 😬

@CLeighannHxo hi OP, I'm in similar position yo you, weaning second baby but have mostly forgotten what I did last time Blush

Found this quite useful: www.nhs.uk/start4life/weaning/recipes-and-meal-ideas/ you can filter by baby's age to find ideas for meals and snacks.

On the toast you could offer cream cheese thinly spread, unsalted butter or smooth nut butter (just a very thin layer of that as its a bit sticky). Or maybe finely mashed banana or avocado? Again not too much so it's not a choking hazard.

Do you or your partner have food allergies?
I think NHS guidance re: allergen foods is to offer in small amounts and one at a time (so you know what baby is reacting to, if they did have a reaction) but generally treat as any other food. A reaction would show up quite quickly, within a couple of hours. NHS info is here:
www.nhs.uk/conditions/baby/weaning-and-feeding/food-allergies-in-babies-and-young-children/

Your breakfast options sound good. You could also try a cheese omelette cut into strips for him to hold?

Oh and yes I'd take any skin off fruit or vegetables for now, I'd be concerned about choking and its hard for them to digest while they're so small anyway.

How long do you keep them in the fridge for? I'd say a few days. I would make enough for about 3-5 days.

Can they be frozen too? Yes I'd say so.

Do you slice the sandwiches just like the toast? Finger sized slices? Yes

Would you take the 'jacket' off the potato? Yes. You'll get to know when your baby can take bigger chunks etc. when you get going it gets easier Smile

Purchase “How to wean your baby” by Charlotte Stirling-Reed. It is great! I have yet to start my weaning journey with my son who is soon to be 5 months but I have read this book and it has a great first 30 day guide to try and the recipes are so simple and there is so much variance! My friend has recently started following the 30 day guide and is loving it and it is making her feel so much more confident with the weaning process Smile

Thank you all for your advice and ideas. We have given him egg and peanut butter up to now been no reaction to those, so going go try others. With fish what would be the best to give him and how? (Would prefer to give him allergens for the first time in the mornings so can keep and eye on him)
Also When did you DC start to have 3 meals a day?
