How do i get my child to eat quietly?

My child is 3 and in the last couple of months has started eating noisly. Obviously this is not good table manners but what makes it worse is that I have misphonia and my absolute trigger is - noisy eaters. I tried to explain that we must eat with our mouths closed but DC gets upset.
For those that dont understand misphonia, certain sounds are like torture and bring the fight or flight feeling in sufferes. I cant take myself out the room because im worried of choking. I dont want my child to feel like they are being told off everytime they eat. Will they grow out of this?

Are you sure they’ve not got a blocked nose. It’s very hard to eat with your mouth closed if you can’t breathe. No wonder they get upset.

No definitely not a blocked nose. I did say in a calm voice that we try and eat with our mouths closed.

I suspect this will be a recurring issue - no one eats quietly all the time (least of all kids). Your reaction is understandable given your condition, but must be scary for your kids, and ultimately I suspect would lead to issues around food.

I think that you should focus on getting help for yourself.

Being asked to eat with your mouth closed must be scary for children? And will lead to food issues? I’m a trauma therapist and that sounds far fetched to me.

Aww I feel for you I have misphonia I can’t stand being in the the same room as anyone when they are eating - apart from my son. He is a noisy eater - but was tube fed for the first 4 years of his life because of issues.
His eating is actually a joy for me now - he’s slow, he’s noisy but he’s thriving.
I know you don’t have the same experience- but if you try to view the noises he makes as what is helping him grow and develop that may help.
It’s hard I know but it won’t be forever - could you try background music or earplugs and just remember that he’s not doing it on purpose- unlike my fil who I could gladly stab when he’s munching away.

Thank you at @ChristmasCovid. I have never scared my child as some pp have suggested, he just gets upset as he doesnt understand. I would love to not be bothered by it. I have had it as a child. I was hoping other might have any tips or ideas to help a child understand that we eat with our mouths closed.

Eating noises drive me up the wall. I don't think I'm as bad as you but makes my hair stand in end. Dd1 gets annoyed with dd2 too but Dd1 is just as bad imo. I think it's really important not to make food or meal times a battleground in anyway though and a 3 year old getting upset over it is not great and might put him off eating or give him a complex. Like any other things young children just don't have the coordination or ability to eat silently . Can dp supervise meals so you don't have to hear it? Headphones or ear defenders?
