Potty training and school..

My little boy is 2.5, he turns 3 in July. Back in October he was using the potty about 50% of the time for his wees, but since then will not touch it at all, he's never done a poo in it.

I'm just a bit worried as I know it says some kids aren't ready until they are older, but as his birthday is late July he's one of the youngest in his will be school year, and he's starting half days in a school nursery in September. I also have a baby due in August, to complicate things further.

I'm guessing he needs to be potty trained for the half days, I'm really feeling stressed about it. Has anyone been in this position?

Keep persevering, my little boy is slightly older, will be 2 in April. At the beginning of December I was having the same panic as you, he wouldn't poo on the potty, hit and miss with wees, I was worried he would be going to school still in nappies. Then suddenly over the last couple of weeks it's just clicked, he only had a pull up on now at night. Hope that helps a little Smile

My daughter was 3years 5 months before we cracked it - it was a nightmare and I had a younger baby too so feel your pain

My advice is to send him in pull ups if he's not ready and once he sees people at nursery using the toilet he'll get interested - that's what happens with dd and it was really quick after that.

I was stressed during my pregnancy it was awful but looking back she wasn't ready and my youngest is only just 3 and he's nowhere near ready so I'll wait until spring.

From a nursery perspective, nappies are loads easier than pull ups as you don't have to take off shoes/ trousers etc. to change them.

Don't worry too much as unlike schools, most nurseries should be able to cope with an untrained child.

They will encourage your DS and perhaps if he sees others using the potty/toilet will be happy to switch to pants.

You've got absoloutley ages yet! Once they get it, it's a quick process. Set aside a week or two once it gets a tad warmer and just focus on potty/loo. If at the end of the fortnight he hasn't got it, go back to nappies and try again in June.

It's easy to say, but it's really not worth getting stressed about it. Between now and September is plenty of time to train. The last little girl I potty trained was a July birthday - we started training her in the January when she was two and it was a no go, she really didn't get it, so we stopped and she decided in the March that she wanted to wear pants and trained pretty easily in a week or so.
