Hey, don't brush it, whatever you do NEVER BRUSH IT! Use a wide comb when wet, if it gets unruly after sleeping then spray her hair with conditioner spray and finger through if needed.
When she gets out the bath, use a cotton t-shirt to scrunch the water out, don't rub.
Good luck 👍🏻

@KLM19 you can get it down the kids aisle, with the rest of the shampoo etc. We use the Johnsons shiny drops, comes in a pink bottle. It's just basically leave in, watered down conditioner in a spray bottle. (Also apologies, I assumed girl!)

You can make your own conditioner spray, just a spray bottle with water in and a good dollop of conditioner.

You could also just wash her hair with conditioner, it's a well known curly hair method. The Alberto balsam conditioner is very cheap and great for curls.

Generally, curls need specific shampoos / conditioners without certain ingredients - basically silicones. The Alberto Balsam shampoo is one that fits the bill but is very cheap!

I wash ds hair with water and then use leave in conditioner. If you do need to wash food out baby shampoo is fine for curly hair.
Never brush it, that causes frizz

DS has thick curly hair, like me. I do brush it but only ever when it's wet with conditioner in it, I use a wet brush, tangle teezer wet brushes are fine for this age. Let it dry naturally and preferably before he goes to bed. I don't use leave in conditioner all the time because they get product build up and there's no need if you follow the above, I do shampoo his hair a few times a week at the beginning of a bath, then brush conditioner through and let him play rinsing just before he gets out. When I do use leave in (after swimming for example) I use the child's farm one on him.

Use Cantu shampoo and conditioner. It’s made for Afro hair but can help any sort of curly hair. Minimal shampooing, lots of conditioning.

Get some sleep hats.

Either these or a silk or satin pillowcase will massively reduce frizz

As PPs have said wash with a very gentle shampoo and conditioner (you could trial washing alternatively with shampoo and just conditioner), Do not brush it, ever. Detangle with a wide comb when wet with conditioner. If the curls break up a bit overnight, in the mornings spray with conditioning spray and gently cup the curls to encourage them to reform.

doadeer · 03/01/2022 09:19

My son has very curly hair. We wash once a week with conditioner only.

Use African pride detangle in pink bottle and just get the hair saturated and gently with my fingers. Only actually brush if wet in Bath.

We use a cantu leave in conditioner too. And spray with conditioner / water during week if needed.

Sleep hats for a toddler? Really?! As someone with curly hair and a DD and DS with it too, I’d say it depends on their willingness to let you eg run your fingers through it or comb it to untangle when needed and to let you condition it. Hence why patient DD still has her long hair and DS with sensory issues has his kept short. But there’s no way either of them would have tolerated a sleep hat!

Well, thousands of kids do wear them! Confused

I use cantu kids on my 20 month old, he has the most glorious ringlets, looks like a little cherub at times! Initially didn't use the conditioner as it seemed to weigh his hair down, now I use a tiny bit mainly on the back as his hair can get a little bit tangly when he sleeps. We get comments on his hair whenever we go out 🤣 the pic is his just after his bath the other night

@KLM19 yep I've put everyone on notice of death if they take scissors anywhere near his hair!! I will let it grow until he asks for it cut, I'm not sure how it's gonna grow as his seems to go into tighter ringlets, you pull them straight and his hairs gotta be a couple of inches long, when it's wet it's down his neck.

Your lil man has gorgeous curls too, they look so much neater and tidier than Charlie's 🤣

stayathomer · 04/01/2022 06:23

We always use a moisturising shampoo as opposed to cleansing one and a conditioning spray. 7 yo adores his curls and any time we look like we're going to brush his hair he tells us to make sure not to brush them out because he doesn't want 'flat hair!' We cut when they start getting too long and cut at home because it's luck of the draw whether any of the barbers can do curly hair or not (even the ones we know to be brilliant!)

stayathomer · 04/01/2022 06:24

Oh by the way that looks like I'm saying we don't use a conditioner spray, we do!!

Dipsydoodlenoodle · 04/01/2022 13:28

Look at the curly girl method. I have no experience with it, but 2 friends have used it with great success
