Norovirus should I stay away from newborn

My first time posting so please be kind! I have a 6 week old DD and 4yo DS. Yesterday I spent 3 hours with sudden extreme D&V...I haven't had any more V today but still a bit of the D. DH stayed up all night with baby (she's formula fed) and SIL has just arrived to help. I don't know whether to stay away from baby for 48 hours after symptoms stop? It seems extreme not to hold my 6 week old for days on end but I'm so scared of infecting her. What would others do?! I'm sitting in my bedroom feeling fine at the moment.

I don’t know what the right thing to do is, but I’ve never stayed away from my toddler, he’s breastfed so I couldn’t. I always think you’re probably contagious before you have symptoms so potentially exposed anyway. I just try to wash my hands more and keep everything more sanitised than usual.

I get every sickness bug my toddler has had, but any that I’ve had and he (seemingly) hasn’t had, he’s not caught. Weird!

Could you wear a mask . One of the ones that has the higher filtering. We have a vulnerable child and that is what we do if in doubt. Also obviously not kissing them or touching them without sanitizing hands first etc

I think you’d have been infected preD&V. I’d let DH feed her and wash your hands more than normal but I wouldn’t isolate.

Thank you, its good to get other perspectives! I know if I was breastfeeding I wouldn't be able to stay away, it's just hard to know what to do when I could in theory keep away. SIL is here for the day so might keep my distance for now then I'll have to get involved overnight after she's gone as DD doesn't sleep well at all and don't think DH can do another night alone! I'll just do lots of hand washing and cleaning.

Thanks that's a good idea re mask, I've only got the basic ones but presumably it'd be better than nothing.

Alcohol hand gel doesn’t kill Noro; make sure you use soap and water. It’s highly contagious and it ripped through the house when DD caught it.

My temp was 40.1 and I was by far the most unwell of all of us, it was horrendous. I’m a healthy 30 something.

Oh no this is terrifying...maybe what I've had isn't norovirus as I just had a really bad afternoon of it yesterday but haven't had a fever and it seems to be mainly over now, just a bit of lingering diarrhea (sorry TMI).

An afternoon of S&P isn't indicative of Niro virus tbh. As long as you clean bathroom after using it and practice regular hand hygiene, you should be fine bear your baby.

Thanks for this, I've still had nothing since this morning so I'm thinking I was over reacting and haven't actually had Noro. Going to keep up the hygiene and carry on!

There is a big difference - we were all projectile vomiting every half hour or so, coming out of both ends at the same time, fever, unable to keep even water down - for a good 72 hours.
