Hello

We would really like to go on holiday next year with our little one who will be 18 months around the time.

Any good hotel suggestions? Ideally 4/5 star and all inclusive (or half board)

Thank you!

Friends stayed at Moonfleet Manor in the New Forest and loved it. It is part of a luxury family hotels chain - posh hotel but child friendly.

UK or abroad?

When ours was just over 1 we had a lovely holiday in the algarve. It was September and the weather was lovely and it was cheap!

Can’t remember the name of the hotel but there are loads of decent hotels. We rented a car and got out and about, quite a lot to see. However that element was quite stressful you might be fine just to chill out near the pool (we had to take it in turns to chill out/ watch the dc though!)

Thank you 😊 Portugal or Spain would be great due to the short flight

Portugal is lovely and very child friendly. No hotel recs as I always get an air bnb, but it would be a great destination for a first holiday with a little one.

We did Domes of Elounda in Crete when ours was 14 months - it was fabulous. Lovely pool area, nice restaurants, private beach so very safe. Just don’t get one of the rooms with a pool as they are too blinking cold for the kids!!!

P&O cruise
They have a free night nursery with British nannies. You can have fun in the day with your child and enjoy food/drinks/entertainment on ship while they sleep. You get a pager. My little one loved it and I went off several times in the week to breastfeed her back to sleep (she was 11 months).

Dona Filipa hotel

I wouldn't take a young DC abroad personally. We took DS to Skiathos and Tunisia when he was 18 months and 2.5. Nightmare. It was too hot for him (early May) so we spent most of the time in the air conditioned hotel room. We waited until DD was 5!

Oh come on it depends where and when you go surely! Our DCs first trip abroad was to Switzerland in springtime. Def no weather issues there.

Look at TUI blue brand, used to be family life.

whiteroseredrose · 30/12/2021 21:37

@Frazzled2207 Good point. DS's first holiday was actually to Morzine in French Alps and that was fine.

I was thinking of Mediterranean beach holidays. They were a big error for us, even really early in the season.

Stayed in a villa with friends rather than hotel with our then family 19mo son. Found it easier than hotel as could put him to bed and chill in the evening, cook some food etc. Was also nice to chill outside when he was napping without feeling like we were cooped up in a hotel room.

Wish we had taken our own travel cot. Villa said they would provide one but it was really uncomfortable so caused some sleep disruption.

We're on holidays with our 3 month old in Mexico at the moment. We rented a villa with our own private pool, we find this far better than a hotel because we have our own space. It wasn't any more expensive either. Also the pool is right next to the bedroom so we can see him from the pool while he naps in the air conditioning. It's ideal for us so I will definitely be going the villa route for all our trips for the next few years.

King Evelthon in Paphos is nice and you can book a swim up room which we have always booked with young children.
It means they can go down for their nap(s) and you can still sunbathe and swim. Also much quieter than the main pool if you go during the school holidays.

Thank you all!

We definitely want to go abroad, we have done staycations and loved them but we'd like to get away while our son is still free.

When DS1 was 18m we went to Playa Mar in Puerto Pollensa. We'd have gone back there with DS2 too if we'd been able to travel.
