14 month old poo

What should my 14 month old’s poo be like?

She’s having formed poos (hard and oblong, but can squish them - enough for me to feel the shape of the poo outside her nappy). Surely this is constipation? We were given movicol which often makes her poos too soft and fill the whole nappy. She drinks 2/3 cups of water a day, has 3 bottles and has plenty of fruit (and moderate amount of veg).

Realised the title is very grammatically incorrect. We don’t have 14 month old poo 😂

I mean if they are fairly squishable I would think thats ok?? With constipation, isnt frequency the problem (as well as firmness)? How often does she go? Regular pattern (e.g my Dd goes at least once a day, occasionally twice). I find my Dd’s poo’s vary a lot based on what she’s eaten in the last few days. I don’t think what you’ve described is that abnormal.

Is she straining and getting upset when she goes? That would be another indicator of constipation I would think.

@OrDis thanks for replying. She sometimes strains but doesn’t appear to be in any discomfort. We’ve tried prunes pears and other foods to help loosen it a bit but with no luck or much change tbh. She used to go once a day but now it varies from once a day to every few days.

I don't think it's constipation unless they are rock
Solid and/or they are really struggling to pass it.

Why would you keep a poo for 14 months? And more to the point where do you store it?

bonetiredwithtwins · 28/12/2021 20:24

As long as she's going daily or every other day and not getting upset or turning bright red when pooing I'd say it's normal

Out of my twins - one does poos like you describe and the others is a lot softer and not really as formed. Same diet
