Hiya! Can I use bio oil on my baby. His arms are so dry. Or can you recommend a good moisture? It doesnt look like eczema xx

Hi, you couild try an oat bath! But some plain oats into a socks or tights and let it sit in the bath. It's natural and really moisturising. My baby has dry skin occasionally but not bad enough to call it Ezcema. This really helps.

I'd use a baby specific moisturiser and be religious about it. Maybe an ointment for the bath

How often do you bath them? What do you put in it?

Michlj · 26/12/2021 14:03

Thanks for your replys. I use Aveeno for babys. And I use their cream....seems worse tbh. Xx

I've never had the moisturiser but I use a lot of kokoso on my baby and I definitely recommend it. It's most likely just new baby skin and the weather but you can get something from your gp if you do think it's eczema. Or if it doesn't get better you might consider allergies?

I used baby-friendly creams for both of mine for years with very limited success until my newborn's pediatrician said that good old blue tin Nivea would do the trick for her dry skin. I had it anyway as I need heavy-duty moisturising for my own dry skin. It cleared up my toddler DS's atopic dermatitis within 2 applications!

Wow thanks for your replys. I shall look into both mentioned above xxx

Central heating is also very drying. You could put a cup of water on the radiators in his bedroom and in the main living room. I find I itch a lot less in winter when I remember to keep them topped up.

INeedNewShoes · 26/12/2021 22:11

Make sure you're not using any fabric softener in the wash and not overdoing the detergent.

In terms of creams, I've found the Aveeno baby cream (nb NOT the lotion) to be excellent on dry skin.

Also ensure you're not using SLS product in the bath (Johnson's baby bath products are quite drying for example)

PanicBuyingSprouts · 26/12/2021 22:16

How dry is their skin? Is it scaly at all?

Michlj · 26/12/2021 22:58

@Ineednewshoes and @panicbuyingsprouts - What else is there other than the Aveeno lotion? A serum or something? I dont think its scaly no just ruff. Also are you not meant to use favric softner? Thank you in advance xx

I was asking if the skin was scaly as my DS was born with very dry skin and it turns out he has a rare skin condition. You can mix Aveeno with vegetable glycerin and put a bag of oats in the water as you run his bath. If the dry skin persists I would ask for a referral to a dermatologist though x

INeedNewShoes · 27/12/2021 13:01

@Michlj

I was meaning that you need to make sure you get the Aveeno baby 'cream' rather than the Aveeno 'lotion'. The cream is thicker and more effective whereas the lotion doesn't work on either my or DD's dry skin.

The cream has a navy blue lid whereas the lotion is pale blue.

Ahh ok...fabulous advice guys thank you xx
