Hi hazygirl, sorry to hear about your ds. The nurse is right when she says not to give amelia solids yet. She may be going through a growth spurt and its not unusual to only go 2 hours at this age even.

The World Health Organisation say 6 mths, but numerous children don't go that long, at which point wait until around 17 weeks (4 mth mark, no earlier.)

As already mentioned 2 hr feeds is not uncommon, with my first I was advised to go to the next level of formula (that was Aptamil at the time) guess sma staydown is similar designed to help fill them up for longer???

Yes it has been changed from 4 months to six months. I started my ds just before that as he was losing weight rarther than gaining weight.

Hi hazygirl

The CONI nurse is right - there's research showing that it's better to wean babies later rather than earlier. This research is new since your youngest was a baby.

The World Health Organisation recommends weaning at 6 months, and if you look on the Weaning forum you'll find lots of arguments about this - some people feel this worked very well for them, and others feel it's too long.

Certainly there is strong evidence that it's best not to wean before 4 months, so there's a bit of time to decide.

It's lovely to hear that Amelia is doing well, and I'm so sorry to hear about her db - I can understand that this would make everyone very anxious to keep her weight up.
