Neocate milk

Hi

My baby has just been prescribed neocate milk, it's being delivered in the next few days. From what I've seen online, it says the water must be cooled atleast 30 mins before mixing. Instead of the 'within' 30 mins like normal formula.

Does anyone use neocate and can you use prep machine, if not, how do I prepare?

Thank you

When we used it for DD1 (only for a six week trial period to rule out CMPA), the consultant said cooled boiled water was actually fine. So we just boiled a kettle in the morning then filled up a load of bottles with the right amount of water, left them on the side and mixed the powder when needed.

Good luck, it’s vile stuff. Absolutely miraculous I’ve heard if your child has CMPA, but for the ever contrary DD1 she just turned out to be a champion refluxer and Neocate merely made the puke smell of cabbage….

I admit my youngest is now a teenager, however all 3 of mine had to have this. Yes it is rancid stuff. Mine all had severe reflux for the first year or so.

We used cooled boiled water. One of mine started it in SCBU, and I do think the water was left to cool properly. Note I am out of date though! But it really helped.

6 years ago it was cooled boiled water but then the rules all changed.

I used the prep machine but pressed the button both times so the "hot shot" then again for the cooler water before adding the neocate. It was fine and no issues at all. Yes it stinks but they soon get used to the taste. It is a very thin milk though so if your baby has reflux as well as milk allergy they may need gaviscon in it to thicken it.

Than you all and that's a great idea re adding milk after to the prep machine! @Aria20

Baby 10 weeks has reacted badly to all formula since birth, has tried two types. Mostly cmpa symptoms with some silent reflux. Has been on gaviscon since 1 week. Aptamil pepti for 8 weeks and omeprazole 3 weeks. Paediatrician has recommended a trial for neocate as the pepti still has lactose and cows milk traces

Baby is ok on pepti but is still reacting albeit no so bad. Will trial neocate and see what happens. Didn't realise it tastes bad?! Xx
