Reflux help with 7 week old!

So my 7 week olds reflux is getting really bad. She used to be able to finish 4-5oz no problem. Now she’s really struggling to drink only managing 2-3oz at a time and she’s still drinking every three hours. Starting to worry as surely she should be drinking a lot more than that now. Is there anything we can do to help her. We are currently giving her infacol and using the mam bottles. We also try to burp her after every ounce or so. Don’t like seeing her so uncomfortable. Have spoken to a doctor about it before and she just said it’s normal and doesn’t want to give us medication as that can make them constipated and feeling worse

It is a fine line between reflux and constipation as I found out when my ds had same problem. Not sure which was worse tbh.
I find it helped if I wore him in a sling in frog position as much as possible and when in cot raised the mattress at one end (pile of books underneath) to help him sleep. That way I could at least keep him more comfy between feeds. Feeds little and often can help. If baby is gaining weight Terry not too get too hung up on amounts, it'll all even up in the end.
I don't think there is a solution other than time sadly. Once the muscle at the bottom of the oesophagus strengthens it should improve, so floor time to get the core muscles practised helps towards that.
I'm sure others will come along with good advice.

Three of my babies have had silent reflux and it is horrible, I can completely sympathise. I have also found some gp's to be hopeless when it comes to reflux. One doctor basically accused me of being a hysterical mum and told me all babies cry 🙄 this was my fifth baby and I was well aware of that! When my husband rang he had a five minute conversation and got prescriped gaviscon. It helped but can cause constipation so you need to watch for that.
Infacol is for colic though not reflux and I found made the reflux worse.
What is it that's stopping your baby drink more?
What reflux symptoms is she having?

Has she been checked for tongue tie? If she's struggling to suck she might be taking in air which wouldn't help anything.

Ha is on made dts constipated, Infacol had the opposite affect so it was ok. They had to be medicated with omeprazole until 18 months. If it's reflux push for more from the go. Get a cot wedge, tilt the end of the cot, upright for 20 mins after every feed.

Are bf or ff? If ff, put her in your lap and feed with the head up. Swirl the bottles don't shake, it get a more air in.

Gaviscon!!

Carobel to thicken the milk worked with both of mine (in combination with more gentle milks). Gaviscon made both constipated, but for DD1 Carobel helped her keep enough of a feed down in order to sleep, and for DD2 it helped keep the acid burps at bay so she could take more milk.

I feel your pain OP. For first 3 months DC slept on me in an upright position to keep milk down. Exhausted. Nothing worked so paid for cranial osteopathy. Expensive. After the 5th session the silent reflux stopped. Could have just been maturing of the muscle that keeps food down or the CO. Not sure. Sweet relief for us both. All the best

We're on Gaviscon for silent reflux. It helps to an extent and it hasn't made DD constipated. I would ask to see another doctor and request a prescription for infant Gaviscon. It's certainly not a given that Gaviscon leads to constipation.

Are you BF or formula? We found kendamil the best milk for ours, he's 9 months now and had horrendous reflux from 10 days old. Also suffered with constipation on any other milks and we couldn't use gaviscon. We add 1 scoop of carobel to every bottle still to thicken it. He also had 2.5ml of omaperazole - this combination of the right milk, omaperazole and carobel helped within a couple of days! If they prescribe more omaperazole - just start with 2ml a day and build up until you find the right amount. We were prescribed 10ml a day and starting off so high caused huge upset to his tummy but starting small we built up to 5ml a day and now he's only on 2ml as he's grown and sits up/stands it eases. Hope you're ok and that any of the advice received works! X

Oh lovely I feel your pain. Reflux is so hard and I’m at times it felt never ending. My dd also had problems feeding and would constantly be coming on and off bottles, feeding little and often. As long as babe is gaining weight I’d try and relax but I know that’s hard.
We tried all these things for reflux:
Inclining cot
Holding upright for 30mins post feed
Using a dummy (the sucking neautralises the acid or something)
We settled on kendamil milk which she tolerated best (although I’ve also heard goat milk based formulas is also good for reflux)
Burping really thoroughly

By 6 months it was much improved once she wasn’t horizontal so much and started weaning.

Thinking of you x

Cow and Gate Anti Reflux milk was a game changer for us!

My 7 week old also has reflux and its so hard isn't it. We on omperzole and moving over to kendamil from hipp comfort. My little one is more silent reflux but he still super fussy after feeds. Think its a combo of reflux and colic. He stops crying when he is held and walked around. Have to do it for 30 mins after every feed. He also has terrible hiccups after each feed its so upsetting. I have maybe 1 or 2 hrs asleep if that a night as he just wants to sleep on his tummy on my chest. He screams crying for hours with my husband. However seems like it gets much better with age from other posters. Fingers crossed for us.
