Baby sleeps unbelievably well, but difficult to settle!

Hello all

Our 4m old DS sleeps like a dream: down at 830ish, and wakes at 7am with one feed around 11pm.

Seems to settle himself really well if he randomly wakes up in the night

I know we should be very grateful for this (and we are), but there's one challenge: getting him settled in the basinette in the first place.

As soon as we finish the final feed at 815ish, we get him when he's drowsy-but-awake calmly into the basinette. But he then grizzles (NOT crying) for AGES, and we inevitably end up picking him up to settle him again. This can repeat and go on for some time until he drifts off

Is it just a case of sticking to the above plan until he 'gets' it, or do we need to do something else

In case anyone asks: he generally doesn't nap in there in the day, and we know we might need to associate him with it for naps

Any advice much appreciated!!

How long would you say he gizzles for ? If he's not crying I would leave him cause if he knows you will lift him everytime he will do it even more x

Personally my baby settles quicker if I respond faster and don't let her grizzle at all. I would try whipping him up again and waiting until zonked out before putting her down again.

I would absolutely kill for your nights though. At the moment almost five month old is up six or seven times from 9pm to 7am. Good luck with the leap!

I think you should definitely continue with putting baby down awake as you are, so he doesn't get too much into the habit of being comforted to sleep before being put down, this can cause upset when they wake up and realise they aren't in your arms anymore.

How long does he grizzle for? My DS grizzles and coos for about 20 mins before he goes to sleep (unless he's hungry/overtired/needing burped, in which case he screams!)

Very envious of your good sleeper, my DD is the same age and although very contended still doesn’t sleep for anywhere near that long!
Does he like the comfort of going down with a muslin on or near his face? Obviously to be removed when he’s deeper in sleep, my dd settles better with a muslin which we then move.
