Toddler parents - is 16oz water too much for one year old?

Hi,

I’m just wondering if I should be concerned about my daughter. She loves her water and has been having about 16oz a day! Some days 20! I’ve read online which says this is ok but it seems like a lot compared to my friends kids!

Should I be concerned ? She has 12oz of milk on top of this.

My kids definitely never drank even close to that Confused but I don't think I would worry too much.... one of my kids ate a lot at that age, other hardly anything. Kids are different Wink

Sounds rather a lot. Is it from a cup or bottle?

Keissax · 16/12/2021 21:10

@grey12 yeah I’m not sure weather it’s something I need to get checked or not ! My mum said it’s too much I can’t find any advice from NHS but pampers say 1 litre a day on top of milk intake !? I am so confused. www.pampers.co.uk/baby/feeding/article/when-can-babies-drink-water

Will ask the HV tomorrow I will give them a call I think…

@dementedpixie it’s from a straw cup filled 8oz she drinks it throughout the morning then I fill again in the afternoon and she will drink it again before bed…

Maybe let the HV know, I think that's a good idea Wink otherwise it'll just be a bit worry on the back of your mind

Same with my 3rd baby. She hardly eats at 14 months 🤷🏻‍♀️ but spoke to HV and got her weighed and checked and she's fine!

Ostryga · 17/12/2021 07:31

I’d be tempted to get her checked for diabetes tbh. That does sound like a lot of liquid. Dd never had more than 2/3 sips of water with food at that age.

As long as it isn't impacting on how much food she is eating, I wouldn't have thought it would be a problem. But if you're worried, always worth checking with the health visitor to put your mind at rest
