Is my baby delayed?

My DS is 9 months tomorrow.
He's never liked going on his tummy, he can sit really sturdy since he was about 6 months he's been able to sit unaided. However when I put him on his tummy he struggles to lift his head up and just lies there and moans/cries.
He's started flinging himself forwards from a sitting up position and going onto his tummy himself but he just lies there moaning, he's not lifting himself up onto his hands/knees so he's not really showing any signs of wanting to crawl.
He can't go from lying down to pulling himself up to sit either yet. I'm worried he's behind where he should be.
I know all babies are different but I see some other babies younger than him at our sensory class and they're crawling or at least army shuffling along the floor.
Should I be worried?

Dd was like this and couldn't get into a seated position. Without my help until ten months. She started crawling just after and pulled to stand for the first time at almost 13 months - and walked at 16 but she was a really confident Walker and didn't ever do that 'bambI' wobbly walking. She's still at the late end of gross motor - she's just turned two and currently mastering jumping, she is a prolific climber though. She runs everywhere but does trip herself up at times as she goes too fast.

I used to worry a lot but once she started walking I stopped - she will get there in her own time and her fine motor skills and speech are
Good. I raised it with the HV a lot and they were also not worried at all.

I'd say discuss with HV but not to worry - it's hard when all the other babies are all over the place and yours isn't but they do tend to even put in the end.

IMO nothing to worry about. Is he happy, alert, making noises? My youngest didn’t bother with crawling until about 12 months, and didn’t walk unaided until at least 18 months, well behind other babies the same age, never liked tummy time, and he’s a perfectly healthy 10 year old now. Get a health visitor to check him out if it puts your mind at rest. Enjoy your baby Smile

Not all babies crawl. My first would just lie down and go to sleep whenever she was put on her front and never made any attempt to crawl. By 9.5 months she was walking which came totally out of the blue.

My first daughter was like that. She bum shuffled at almost 12 months and saw a physio as she couldn't pull herself to standing at 15 months. Suddenly got up and walked steadily at 18 months. The health visitor suggested the physio.

My DD never liked tummy time and was a late crawler, didn't really like crawling but was an excellent bum shuffler. Late walker too
Was also a large baby, an early talker and had excellent fine motor skills. Not sure how scientific it is, but someone said to me babies either develop fine or gross motor skills first and then other a bit later.

DD also hated tummy time with a passion. She didn't crawl or really pull herself up into a sitting position until over 10 months. She then mastered crawling in the space of 48 hours. Same with walking - took her until 15 months, then learned very quickly. She just took her time. Perfectly normal school child now.

Is he pulling to stand from sitting? Does he cruise at all?
My DD despised tummy time. She never did crawl. She walked before a year though and is totally normal in terms of gross motor (she's 5 now, no issues with riding her bike and loves her ballet lessons). I worried about things like hand development as if read crawling was important for developing hand stregth and coordination. Her handwriting is great now and she loves to draw.
Basically, look for other opportunities for mobility. Some babies just hate being on their tummies. My boys were so co pletely different and we're crawling around before 9 months. Not persuaded with walking though!

@TinyTeacher no he's not pulling up yet, he can sit really well but just not a fan of tummy time at all and I think because I have laminate all downstairs I'm scared to put him on the floor but I've started putting him on his carpeted bedroom floor a lot now with his toys all round him so he has to reach, he does manage to get on his tummy but then hates it 🤦🏼‍♀️🤣 I suppose all babies are different and he will work out his own way of mobility. It's just a wordy with the first one isn't it and then you see other babies younger some of them crawling and stuff it makes you doubt. But he's such a happy baby he starts smiling and bouncing when he hears music etc He did start saying baba and mama about a month ago but he's been poorly with a cold and broncholitus and he's stopped saying it now I think that might have pushed him back a bit
